“Very nice stay in Helsinki”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

I have stayed at the Hilton Helsinki Strand several times with my job and will again stay there tonight. It is a hotel I always look forward to staying at. The rooms are very nice, clean and well, scandinavian in that the bathroom tiled floors have the most wonderful radiant heat running through them. The location is good, the staff is very friendly and the breakfast buffet is well worth the extra money. The only negative is the thermostat in the room is limited to 19 - 23 degrees Celsius. Some might like it warmer on those cold Finnish nights or cooler.

Overall, very wonderful place to stay when in Helsinki.

We stayed here for a night. The stay was very comfortable. The room was large overlooking the waterfront with a nice, clean washroom. Water in the pool was really not warm and therefore we could not enjoy it. However, we enjoyed the sauna. The hotel is very centrally located and you can walk down to almost all the sights that you wish to see. Breakfast was part of our package but we could not enjoy as we had to leave quite early in the morning, and, the hotel staff refused to give us packed breakfast without a surcharge, this we found ridiculous! However, we got some fresh fruit when we checked out in the morning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the waterfront.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Stayed at the hotel in October 2013 as part of a family city trip to Helsinki

Location: Excellent. Only about ten minutes walk to Esplanade and Senate square. About fifteen minutes to railway station. Situated on a quiet street facing the harbour. Located in Hakaniami. Great access to transport- bus stop 615 to airport is about 1-2 minute walk away. Took around forty minutes. Also has metro stop. Hakinanimi market visible from entrance.

Rooms: Clean and spacious for a central capital city. not the most modern rooms (mildly dated). Downside was finding dusty covers initially on entry and a couple of short hairs which resembled an animal's? Again, Hilton Strand seems obcessed with keeping their guests incredibly warm with a set thermostat of 21 degrees in the rooms!

Some rooms face internal courtyard. We had a pleasant sunny waterview room on the fifth floor (we were on 514). It was a side water view and Slippers and tea/coffee making facilities were a great bonus. I suspect the waterviews of rooms bit further down the corridor- eg 520 may be better as they face the harbour completely but we were more than happy with views from ours!

Food: Booked onto bed and breakfast. Good selection of items. not a great fan of the sausages- unlike Helsinki Vantaa!!

Staff: Reservedly friendly. Warmed up after learning of our preference for Hilton.

Wifi: Free wifi access in lobby which was adequate for us. I do get annoyed at hotels charging guests for usage of wifi in rooms though.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Helsinki city.

Stayed here for a short break in August 2013. Room was clean and comfortable with lovely views of the harbour area. The hotel is centrally located with a short ten minute walk into the heart of the city centre and is easily accessible from the bus that leaves the airport. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice in the food available. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our only complaints were that the wifi was patchy in the rooms themselves but was usable downstairs, and that the hotel does look rather dated now having been built in the 1980s.

Room Tip: Rooms with a harbour view are quieter

We stayed for 2 nights during a weekend in October. The hotel is located at a quiet location on 5 to 10 minutes walk from the city center. The rooms are clean, spacious and have all items you need for a comfortable stay. Friendly staff at all departments. We had our room at the 7th floor which is the executive floor. Also enjoyed the executive lounge beverages and snacks. Perfect. Diner in the Bridges restaurant: limited menu but great quality.

Stayed here for one night whilst making my way to Russia. Got an incredible deal, less than €100 for 2 people including breakfast. Our room was on the third floor, extremely spacious and very clean. There is a sense of old-world about this hotel as in there is no modern art or decor etc. There was a lovely view and the hotel itself looks out onto the river. It's a 5 min walk from the centre and located near the botanical gardens which made for a lovely Sunday stroll.

The breakfast was very nice with great variety.

There is also a small gym, swimming pool, sauna and sunbathing terrace on one of the top floors.

This hotel really attributed to my great experience in Helsinki!

Room Tip: One with a view

Stayed here for one night. Had a sea view room, always great to wake up to in the morning.
The rooms were clean and of good standard and have a traditional hilton feel rather than the usual basic Scandinavian style.
Reception was efficient and willing to help. Hotel entrance was very nice, giving the impression of somewhere nice to stay.
Breakfast was of great standard as always in hilton hotels.
I would definitely stay here again.
