“Nice stay in a well locted Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Hotel is in a very good location for sightseeing. Walking distance to the main square and harbour and a tram-station just a few meters from the door. Overall a decent Hilton Hotel with very good Service, friendly staff and a good breakfast buffet. Interior and entrance hall are slightly dated but ok. We would definitely come back!

This hotel has a very nice and convenient location; in the city center of Helsinki and just by the sea. The hotel takes you back to the 1990's; the rooms, colors, furniture, the gym and so on feel 15 years old... It's all clean, but the hotel is in need of a modernization. Service and breakfast is average, but the executive lounge has a surprisingly good buffet!

We stayed for 3 nights on a family holiday and found it to have a great location, friendly staff and good facilities. There are tram, bus and metro stops less than 2 mins away, as well as various restaurants and shops.

We selected this hotel on the basis of its location -- a quiet spot on the waterfront not far from Helsinki's major attractions. We were not disappointed. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and had a direct view over the harbor. Breakfasts were ample. Do buy a breakfast coupon or coupons upon check-in as you will save a considerable amount of money over the ala carte price. Taxis are easily obtained if you don't want to walk to tourist sites.

Room Tip: Ask for water view.

I stay at this property regularly and find the stays only get better!

To start with the convenience of getting to the hotel using the #615 city bus from the airport for under 5 Euros, trams number 3 and 9, the subway and numerous buses stop only about approximately 40 meters from the hotel. You can walk to the center in about 10 minutes. The Botanical Garden is located adjacent to the hotel, the boat to the zoo picks up passengers only meters from the front door. A walk to harbor or the Esplanade is only minutes away.

The rooms are large for Scandinavia, and yes some are showing their age, but with new mattresses in every room, good desk to work at, a very quiet environment, and over half the rooms have a gorgeous view of part of the Bay of Finland. The water view rooms also have a lot of light all day, even on cloudy rainy or snowy days.

The hotel has a nice small but lovely pool (with a great view), good exercise facilities that are almost always available. There are also several saunas (both private that can be booked and public men's and women's) and they serve a great Scandinavian breakfast, with different eggs, salmon, wide variety of breads, salads, and some very good pastries- (I did not say it would be great if you are on a diet!).

Then there is the staff. This Hilton has possibly the best staff I have come across in my 20 years of regular business travel. They are caring, go out of their way to make the stay as wonderful as possible. I have slipped a couple of times and referred to it as "home", because I feel like I am at a "home". Each time I am greeted by name when I walk by the front desk or the dinning room. The front desk manager is by far the most caring and efficient person hotel manager I have ever encountered at any hotel. His staff follow his lead and are constantly looking for ways give the best stay possible service.

For example, when I arrived very early this trip and the front desk staff spent time to find a room for me. I had not had breakfast, so one of the ladies who was serving breakfast stopped what she was doing and got me a plate of fruit, pastries, and juice to take to my room. I had not asked for any of these extras, the staff did this on their own, and it was greatly appreciated!

Staff members such as Samuel, Hanna, Tuuia, Anastasia, and Pia at the front desk are exceptional. I do not want to leave out house keeping, (who do a great job keeping rooms very clean), to breakfast staff, restaurant staff, to management, everyone is committed to making your stay outstanding.

The other nice thing about the Hilton, is that I occasionally see guests I have seen or spoken to on previous stays. They have had similar experiences and have the same very positive views about the hotel, and the staff as I do. For example couples from Russia, business people from the UK, Germany, France, etc. It seems to be a consistent theme with regulars, where ever they are from.

Whether you are in Helsinki on business, pleasure, to see the sights, or just relax and you are seeking a very well run, very comfortable, warm, and very friendly hotel in a Helsinki, I strongly recommend The Hilton Helsinki Strand.

Room Tip: I have stayed in 339 and almost feel like I am on the water.

I stayed here for just one night and had a very comfortable stay. As others mentioned, the 615 bus from the airport drops off not far from the hotel (the stop is Hakaniema), and from there is approximately a 5 minute walk. The hotel itself is situated overlooking a very pretty harbour area, and it is 10 minutes walking distance from the Helsinki Cathedral, Senate Square and the main shopping district.

The hotel lobby was clean and check in was quick. There is lots of marble throughout the lobby and the hotel restaurant which is adjacent to the lobby. The rooms were huge for European hotel standards, as was the bathroom. The only slightly negative point about the rooms, is that they could do with some refurbishment as the carpet, furniture and drapery looked as if it had been there since the 80's! This almost adds to the charm, however, I think most travellers would expect more current interior design.

Breakfast in the hotel restaurant (it's more of an open seating area near the lobby) was lovely, and included a variety of foods offered in a buffet, and servers were very attentive to bring coffee, tea and juice to the table.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a business centre located near the reception desk, and is convenient from accessing internet and printing, etc. Overall, this is a nice hotel located in scenic setting.

Room Tip: Request a sea room view if possible.

We booked this hotel on the strength of the reviews on TA wewere not disappointed. When we arrived at the airport one of the fellow passengers advised us to take the bus 615 to the centre and it actually drops you almost outside and for 4 .50 euros.
The room overlooked the sea was large and very clean. We enjoyed the very large breakfast and the staff are very helpful .We left our cases behind reception while we enjoyed the sites of Helsinki. I did think the restaurant in the hotel had a limited menu as I am a vegetarian and made the mistake of choosing to eat at the airport which was a mistake as all the restaurants were closed.
