The hotel is ideally located right next to the central railway station, so whether you arrive by train or by bus, it will only take you a couple of minutes to walk there. I arrived at 9:40, long before the check-in time, and expected to have to go for a walk around until 2:00 p.m., but they checked me right in.
My single room on the 10th floor was very spacious, with a big desk, a small table and an armchair, and had a big bathroom. The hotel is in the very centre of Helsinki, so it faces busy streets, but with the soundproof windows, you can hardly hear any noise. The rooms are air-conditioned, but the temperature control can be set to “warm”.
Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant on the 10h floor, and if you are lucky to get a table at the window, you get a skylight view of the city centre. Breakfast is very good and includes a choice of cheeses, cold and hot sausage, some vegetables, scrambled eggs, cereals etc., and even marinated herring (a national dish). The restaurant tends to get really crowded in the last two hours when breakfast is served, so it seems that the right time to come is either very early or very late (in the last half-hour).
The rooms are equipped with a big flat-screen TV with a keyboard, which can also be used to access Internet (the fee is about 8 euros for 24-hour connection), but there is also free Wi-Fi access (pick up a new card with the codes at the reception desk every 24 hours).
If you have to leave later than the check-out time, they will store your luggage until your departure time.
An additional bonus is that you get a 10 per cent discount in the big Sokos department store located in the same building with your hotel card (show the card to the cashier when paying).
The only problem I could spot is the room service. They don’t seem to pay much attention to the cleaning of the floors: I found someone’s hair on my bathroom floor on the day I came, and it seems it was still there when I was leaving three days later. Hope they take better care of this in the future.
Otherwise it is a very nice hotel, with friendly and helpful staff and very conveniently located. I think I will come back there.
