“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Upon arrival we were upgraded to a suite, a very nice touch! Separate lounge with TV and desk, one showerroom and a separate bathroom with just a tub, nothing else. Lovely bedroom with fantastic bed, so comfortable. We were on the third floor but were not disturbed by any noise from the street. Very conveniently located. Of course we visited the skybar and sat outside on the terrace, blankets & heating were provided as were lovely views over Helsinki. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Dear Annika P,

Thank you for your visit to Solo Sokos Hotel Torni and your wonderful review. I was very happy to hear that you were upgraded to one of our Art deco suites and that you enjoyed your stay with us. When we became a Solo hotel in March 2013 we changed our pillows and now there are three different pillows for each person in every room. The mattresses also are new Finlayson memory foam mattress that adapts to your body based on your body heat and weight.

Torni is located in the heart of the city as you pointed out, just around the corner from the main street which makes us a quiet hotel. Thank you for visiting our Atelier Bar (Sky Bar) on the 14th floor, lovely views over Helsink indeed.

Thank you for your review and your kind recommendation. We all wish you a great Autumn and hope to see you back at Torni in future, too.

Kind regards,
Markus Siitonen

This is a great value hotel. Veyr centrally located to shops and museum and galleries in downtown Helsinki. Rooms are clean and furniture very well appointed and comfortable. The bedd and bdding was perfect for me, and I am on the difficult side on this matter

The Restaurant was excellent value with great cuisine for dinner, and breakfast was also superb, and catering for a large range of tastes.

A trip to the bar/coffee place on the 14 th floor is very well worth it, with fabulous views over Helsinki. Even local people go there.

Staff were excellent, speaking English very well.

I stopped for business and had no trouble with wifi, sending faxes, printing documents. The major shopping forum is 50 meters away, which I made a dash to get some business attire when my bags were a no show!

Room Tip: Go to the 14 th floor for a relaxing drink after a days work, relax, enjoy the ambiance and the view

Dear p w,

Thank you for your wonderful review on Solo Sokos Hotel Torni. I am very pleased with your comments especially on our sleeping comfort and the breakfast. We have purchased new mattresses and additional pillows and have also focused a lot on our breakfast since becoming a Solo hotel in March 2013. Our Solo-breakfast with coffee/tea served to the guests receives continuously a lot of positive feedback.

Thank you for visiting our famous 14th floor Atelier Bar. Great views over the city as you mentioned, ongoing and regularly changing art exhibition takes place in this bar as well.

As you told Torni is a great location for a business traveler. Shopping centers and all major attractions are in a couple of minutes walking distance.

We all wish you a great spring and summer in Perth, Australia and hope to see you back in Torni.

Kind regards,
Markus Siitonen

Solo Sokos Hotel Torni, Helsinki from 17 - 23 July 2013. Flights with KLM from Aberdeen to Helsinki via Amsterdam. Took Finnair Bus from airport to city centre - E6.30 one way. 5 minutes walk from bus station to Hotel. Had requested room on high floor (11th floor highest) but were informed that, as we had booked standard double room with Expedia, 7th floor would be the highest we could get, and on arrival were allocated Room 701. Nice large airy room with large windows facing sun and which had see through bathroom/shower which we did not like. We asked for another room and were allocated Room 314 which we were told was only room available. Plenty wardrobe space, drawers, 2 chairs, TV (only CNN and BBC World News in English), safe, minibar. Very small bathroom - opened door to toilet, sink on left and shower to right. Room kept clean but maids did not come until middle of afternoon some days. Breakfast was very good. Torni Tower Block from 7th - 13th Floors. There are 11 floors with rooms, on 12th floor is a Viewing Platform and on 13th floor (walk up winding stair from 12th floor) is a bar. From 2 p.m. onwards every day anyone can go up in lift to 12th floor (always very busy) to Viewing Platform or up to Ateljee Bar on 13th floor. Lovely views of Helsinki from high floors. There is an ancient type lift which goes between lower floors which we used most of the time. American Bar and O’Malleys Irish Bar are on ground floor of hotel. The day we left we saw inside very nice double room on same floor with lovely wooden wardrobes, large bathroom with bath. Very nice Finish looking room.

Solo Sokos Hotel Torni is very central and ideal for walking to Forum (large underground centre with shops and restaurants) , Esplanadi Park, Helsinki Lutheran Cathedral and Senate Square, Central Railway Station, Harbours, Markets, Shops, Restaurants, Cafes and many other places of interest. We went on”Canal Cruise” around the nearby islands with IHA Cruises on the Doris II. Very nice boat.

We went to Helsinki from 17-23 July 2013 so that we could see the Tall Ships there from 17-20 July.

We enjoyed our time in the Solo Sokos Hotel Torni and in Helsinki very much. Would recommend the hotel to family and friends. Very clean city, but everything is very expensive.

Room Tip: 9th floor or above for excellent city views

Dear harcus65, thank you for nice and thorough review of Solo Sokos Hotel Torni. Torni is only 5 minutes walk from the bus station and railway station, as you pointed out, so it is very easy to get here.

I am sorry that you weer not able to book the 11th floor room through Expedia. Because there are only four rooms per each floor (from 8th to 11th) you can book the view rooms from our own website only.

Thank you for mentioning our very central location where everything is within walking distance. In case of bad or cold weather you could actually walk through Forum shopping center to Central Station or visit Kamppi shopping center or Stockmann department store almost without going outside at all!

So nice to read that you had an enjoyable visit to Torni and Helsinki. Thank you for your recommendations and hope to see you back at Solo Sokos Hotel Torni in future, too,

Yours sincerely,
Markus Siitonen

Hotel location on is very good and you can walk short distances to restaurants (for example). Hotel has also nice penthouse where is Bar Ateljee (nice view over the town). Only disturbing thing was noise from pedestrian street. We had our room in fourth floor, but it was little bit noisy in 3-4 am, but it didn't last very long. Breakfast was good, diverse and you can pick dark or light roast coffee.

Room Tip: Try to get room with view.

We stayed here in July this year. This is an old hotel, famous for its rooftop bar with extensive views of Helsinki. The lift you need is the silver one from the hotel lobby. Have a beer and notice its still daylight - welcome to Finland. Hotel breakfast is solid and varied, with good coffee. Newspapers are free to read as you come into the breakfast room, Financial Times is the only English one, the rest are in Suomi.

The staff at reception are helpful and efficient, with excellent English. Essentially the hotel accommodation is in two parts, one contemporary and the other in traditional Jugend style, like much of the surrounding older granite buildings nearby. So I recommend going for the Jugend, well furnished, comfortable bed, unusual shower, good TV and modern stuff.

The hotel also has a further bar downstairs called O'Malleys, shamrocks and all, don't ask me why. You can get plenty of bars just downhill from the hotel in a granite paved pedestrian street. For the evening meal I can strongly recommend Raffaellos in Alex. Katu.

The general position of the hotel is very good for transport and city life and I recommend it to those passing through or who want to spend a few days on a city visit.

I had stayed there earlier as well, but the rim was even higher now. Fancy breakfast, absolutely best bed, quiet as promised and best possible location in centre of Helsinki. plus great view from the tower as a bonus for visitors.
