“Excellent modern hotel in a historical building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

I'm a road warrior who normally spends 200+ nights in Marriott or Hilton affiliated properties. I spent 4 nights here, and was very pleased with my stay.

The location is on a quieter street in the Helsinki center city, approximately 5 blocks from the train station and central shopping district. It is the perfect location if you want to be in the middle of the city bustle, but want to retire someplace quiet at night. The hotel did not appear to have bell/concierge staff; only the front desk.

The beds seemed to be of cheap design - 4 inch foam on a soft box spring. Still, it was halfway between typical plush U.S. hotel beds and typical rock-hard European chains. I slept comfortably - I can't sleep on standard European rock-hard beds - but I wouldn't call them luxury.

The decor is up-to-date, upscale contemporary-to-modern, and the boutique hotel ambiance is well-maintained. Except for the lower-class beds, the decor reminded me a lot of my stays at Pullman Hotels around Europe. The showers are very large, tiled, wet-room affairs with relaxing, rainfall shower heads as well as the handheld shower head common in Europe. That was a nice plus in the morning. There are also the quirky perks of a boutique hotel -- a menu of pillow choices and massage devices, and more.

If you need to do laundry though, forget it. The hotel laundry service carries a 15 euro cover charge, and will run you 50+ euros on top of that for a day's worth of clothes. Most expensive laundry service for any hotel I've stayed at anywhere in the world.

The odd miss for a hotel of this class -- they did not stock tissue paper or washcloths in the rooms. Those missing amenities created some awkward moments...

The hotel shares the design theme of other Glo hotels, this is a comfortable, upscale hotel in a good location. It is a short walk to the Esplanade, and the tram line is only a block away. The staff is efficient and professional. The original building is a renovated landmark, but our room was located in the newer wing, and the rooms were modern, comfortable and above-average in size. The restaurant seemed a bit overpriced, but Helsinki is very expensive for dining anyway. Breakfast was included, and was a high quality Scandinavian style buffet. Recommended.

My boyfriend and I spent a night here to kick off a trip to four European cities. After a long, overseas flight, we were welcomed by the staff, allowed to check in early and even given an upgraded room. We loved the unique Scandinavian design elements - and the bed was super comfortable. It's a beautiful contrast to enter into an old castle-like hotel with modern, chic rooms. And the location is perfect - we took the airport bus/shuttle to the hotel and were able to walk everywhere from the ideal location. We absolutely loved this place and would stay here again!

business trip in Helsinki, nice modern design hotel, clean and well designed. Only the corridors are not the nicest corridors but still they are new. I would definitely recommend it, and if said by an Italian, you can trust me. Quite close to the main shopping street, it takes only 10-15mins walking.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room and you'll get one of the upper floor that is always better than lower

Glo Art Hotel was reasonably priced and well located not far from the Train and Bus station.
The room was small but comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to book restaurants, provide directions and assistance. Breakfast was very good.

My home away from home when in Helsinki on business. The rooms are modern and fresh, and unless you get the economy double room also very spacious.

The staff is very friendly and professional regardless of time or workload, which is more than one can say for most hotels so would certainly give a big thumbs up for the superb effort!

Glo Hotel Art is located smack in the centre of Helsinki, with very easy access for tourists and business visitors alike. It is also worth mentioning that the breakfast buffet (which seems to be included with most rates) offers a wide food selection and is of great quality.

Highly recommended.

Lovely reception staff. Room small but comfortable beds. Beautiful bath in very 'cool' bathroom. Glass door did not soundproof bathroom so you would need to know your companion fairly well. Dining room serves limited menu in the evening but we enjoyed meals there twice. Not large portions. Breakfast was excellent - great choice and all very fresh. All the staff were lovely and the location is very good.
