“Comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2010

The hotel is located 15 min walk from the center in the calm street. not far from market square. There is a tram stop and ferry stations near the hotel (Viking, Silja Line and others). It's a big clean hotel, some rooms have a sea view. Staff is polite and helpful. My room was nice, bathroom was clean. The hotel provides free wifi and free deposit boxes in rooms. Breakfast was great. All guests can attend sauna and gym free of charge. Also you can rent a bike to take a ride around the city. This place is very nice for families with children and romantic weekends

Stayed a week here on business, initial impressions not great thanks to a rather surly reception guy, room on the small side and not brilliantly laid out (cramped and uncomfortable desk setup not much use for work), but reasonably clean; clearly leaned more towards the staff's convenience rather than the guests, with no drinks-making setup in the rooms ('we have fresh coffee on offer at all times downstairs'), room service also fairly limited and rather steep (15 Euro charge per order, on top of hefty per-item prices - for once I was actually motivated to eat elsewhere despite a heavy workload).

On the other hand, it was pretty clean and everything seemed to work OK, even the thick curtains to keep out the 4AM sunshine, and it's in a pretty nice spot very handy for boat trips etc and just a short walk to the main heart of the city. Also found the bar/lobby/breakfast areas comfortable and well run, with good food and drinks and friendly helpful staff. So, not a bad place to stay but not somewhere you'd want to hang out in your room much.

The hotel very close to the center of Helsinki is located near the harbor and very quiet. Nice rooms. I will return.

I stuck in Helsinki when the ash from the Icelandic volcano closed airports and the hotel staff were really helpful, much more so than the flight company’s. There is a really good restaurant in the hotel with a good variety of dishes at a good price compared with other places in Helsinki. The hotel is just a short walk from the city centre but just far enough so that there was little noise in the evenings.

Rooms were clean and good sized. Great location, easy walk into town center, market place and harbor. Staff was friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast at hotel was only fair, but a short walk to the daily market was great for coffee, fresh fruit and crepes. Was there to attend a conference, but would definitely stay there on a personal trip.

I stayed at Scandic Hotel Marina Helsinki one night on a business trip in the end of May 2010. The hotel is beside the harbor and some 15-20 minutes’ walk to the city centre. The standard is about medium business class. The breakfast was very well, both in terms of extent and in quality. Lots of cereals, yoghurt, bread, vegetables, cold and warm dishes. The WIFI is also free of charge. Any decent hotel in Finland has a sauna, and Scandic Marina is no exception. Cleaning was good.
The room was above average in terms of size or somewhere around 20 sq m. New parquet floor, but the bathroom was in need of renovation, but still ok and with everything working. One small annoying thing was a noisy central AC/ventilation system that you were not able to switch off or adjust. The bed was alright. Rooms facing the back were otherwise quiet with no disturbing traffic. Check in and check out went very quick with effective and polite personnel.
My colleague and I did not use the restaurant for nor lunch or nor dinner. However, we had a bottle of Carlsberg dark lager each that was prohibitively high in price. 15,50 Euro for two 33 cl bottles!!. All other alcohol was also surprisingly high in price. Beware !

We stayed in this hotel with our sons on a quick visit to Tallinn and Helsinki. The location was ideal for us, 5 mins walk from the main shopping and tourist areas but in a quiet area for a relaxing sleep at night. The rooms were small but more than adequate. Despite our differing heights and weights we all found the beds extremely comfortable. After a less than positive experience in Tallinn the large buffet breakfast was a welcome surprise and exceptionally good value in a city where we found dining of any sort was extremely expensive. The staff were always helpful the barman even found and gave us a leaflet on the history of the building in response to a casual remark about the large pillars evident throughout the hotel.
