This was a ok hotel. Beautiful and impressive reception area. We had booked a familyroom, but the hotel was full and we were thus placed in a part of a suite. This was unfortunately not a good solution for us. It was very hot and the windows could not be opened, there was only one sofa bed - no proper bed. Nice restaurant with very good food. We were four adults and a child who ate dinner in the evening and had a very pleasant experience. The same room was chaos at the breakfast serving - too many people and very noisy - staff was unable to clear quickly enough - or replenish food on the buffet.

Location is good, cleanliness is also ok. Breakfast is poor: One type of sausage, one type of cheese (all basic quality), no salmon ... No plain black tea was available for 3 days. Rooms are quite basic. Street at the back of the hotel is pretty noisy. No air condition, window could be only opened a small bit (aprrox. 3 cm). Probably, this is a precaution against people committing suicide. What I found most disturbing is the noise from the poorly maintained elevators. It appeared like people in a room above moving heavy furniture all night. A lot of colleagues also noted this noise. Front desk promised to investigate, but nothing happened. The lunch buffet is expensive and mediocre. Better go to the market hall!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators.

This hotel is ideally located just off the market place in Helsinki on the island of Katajanokka.

Very grande and mostly concrete.
Lots of white painted concrete. Very clean concrete. This hotel would stand a direct hit from a nuclear warhead. You'd might be mistaken you were in St Petersborg.

Rooms very clean, walls very thick. Did I mention the concrete? Joking apart, this is a decent hotel. I wasn't disappointed although it was more than the average nights prices. Mainly due to the fact the athletics were on this weekend.

I guess if you arrive by boat this is your nest for the night. Free WIFI nice touch.

Only thing I found strange was breakfast. We had to walk across the road to the Congress Centre. Breakfast was served in the lobby, strange layout of what could best be described as a school canteen. Decent food, but long tricks between tables islands to find the things you wanted. It must be because the hotel was busy. I can't imagine trapesing across the road in February at -25°C for cornflakes.

Another thing Jamie Oliver pancakes?? Scandic Hotels must have paid a lot of money having Jamie's name splattered in lifts and dining area. The pancakes were recognusable Finnish produce ready made but I guess it was Jamie's marketing team that came up with the idea of offering pancakes for breakfast. Totally see through and probably such a waste of money. Money probably better spent else where.

Decent hotel, you'll not be disappointed but rather amazed.

I stayed with two children in this hotel for 2 nights during our short weekend break. This hotel is close to marketplace, where you can enjoy local dishes in small cafes, bread, berries, vegetabels and hand made souvenirs. Atmosphere in thsi marketplace is lovely. When travelling with children, this hotel is ideal for instance to reach Suomenlinna, old fortress in an island nearby or Korkeasaari, lovely zoo and to take a look at the huge icebreaker few blocks away. This hotel is practically at the harbour where you can take a short daytrip to Estonia, or further to Sweden.

Rooms are pretty clean, not that big. They have a small corner for kids to play near the restaurant. Breakfast is like breakfast is in finnish big hotels: bread, croissants, cereals, porridge, eggs, bacon, fruits, juice, tea or coffee-ok, but nothing special.

At the reception there was a young lady to serve as, she was practising this job, and was not polite, and did not realize how to make quests feel welcome, did not say too many words to us, even simple thing: welcome or guide our way to lifts. Little things but they make the difference.

Little inconvenience is the crowd passing by and landing from the ferry coming from Estonia, with their huge bags of alcohol and behavior and some too drunken people outside at the hotel*s restaurant.

This hotel is nice and clean, and you get a good value for money. The room was clean and quiet, breakfast was very good and the staff friendly. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the railway station and there is a tram line just behind the hotel, so the location is good. It is a large hotel belonging to a well-known chain, so it you want a more personal experience you might want to choose another hotel, but staying at this hotel was in general very pleasant.

The Scandic Grand Marina is in a good location, an easy walk to the shops and attractions of the centre of Helsinki. It is also very handy indeed for some of the ferries to Tallinn - the Viking Line and the fast Linda Line, as well as the various Helsinki sightseeing cruises.

We found the staff friendly and had no complaints at all about the service. The rooms are a pretty good size and clean. We had a very good night's sleep, as there were no noise problems.

The breakfast buffet was good. The hotel is good value, particularly for this part of the world.
