“Good, solid hotel is well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We came here because of Rick Steves' recommendation, which I concluded was sufficiently backed by the TripAdvisor community to warrant making a reservation for our four-day stay in Helsinki, Finland. Because we didn't expect luxury, and knew that Rick Steves' recommendations tend to be more spartan than not, we weren't disappointed. Hotel Anna is extremely well located, in a beautiful portion of the older part of Helsinki, where many of the beautiful old art-nouveau and early 20th century Finnish Secessionist style buildings are found. Both the Design Museum and the Architecture Museum are a block or two away. It is a 15 minute walk to the fastest ferry to Tallinn. It is a 20 minute walk to the train station. There are excellent restaurants all around. So good location, check.
As for the hotel itself, it is plain and functional. Our room was actually fairly large, and certainly comfortable. The only drawback was that the "double bed" consisted of two twin beds pushed together. Not really satisfactory. The room we had was on the 7th floor, which is one flight by stairs up from the top floor reached by elevator. That's not a problem for us, but could be for some people. The bigger problem is, we were right under the roof. In the hot July weather we've been experiencing throughout northern Europe this year, our room was VERY hot. We kept the windows open 24 hours a day, and the fan working. There is no air conditioning.
The bathroom was small, but entirely satisfactory. I am satisfied if the shower works easily, it doesn't flood onto the floor, and the place is clean. Check, check, check.
The breakfast was better than adequate –– not great, not so-so, but solidly OK. The front desk service was friendly, prompt, helpful, and fluent in English. No complaints there. And -- there was strong, reliable and free WiFi. Hallelujah.
So, all in all, I'd give this place three stars for "average," except for the fact it has such a really great location, and the realization that you get what you pay for. On that basis, I give it four stars for "very good." It's a nice place, and I could see us staying here again. But we'd ask for a cooler room next time, and a real double bed!

I have stayed at the Hotel Anna many times, and my last visit was 28.02-02.03.2014. As usual my impressions are very best! The location is great: in the very center of the City, close to the central Railway station, bus stops and places of interest. It is very important for me that the Hotel is absolutely silent. The breakfast is very good. And the main advantage of the Hotel is really kind, polite and helpful personnel! Again I express my sincere gratitude to the Hotelier and the Personnel for the great hospitality, and my special thanks to Triin for wonderful care and exclusive kindness!

Stayed in a single room for 2 nights on business trip. Room was maybe 8 square , barely possible to turn around. A request to change the room was not met. Definitely not worth the money! Would not return to this hotel.

If you'are visiting Helsinki for a day or two, this hotel is great for staying over. Nothing special but clean, well located, convenient. Not on the main road, so you will be able to sleep, even though everything is just around the corner.

I stayed here recently for a few nights. It was a second choice as all the hotels recommended by the conference were booked. We had a rather pleasant surprise,. It is well located, only a few minutes walk from the town centre and well server by trams. The hotel is definitely not in the luxury market but it is clean, comfortable and has very friendly staff. I emailed to inform them that we would be arriving very late and got a response within a few minutes. They provide free wireless internet access and a good breakfast. The local area also has plenty options for a drink and food. I'd certainly go back. If I had any complaint it would be the noise from street activity in the morning - it was hot when we were there and so I had the window open. If it had been closed (triple glazed) it would probably have been a lot quieter in the morning.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street front will probably be a bit quieter.

I stayed here two nights with my fiancé. We loved that it was so close to the city center but far away enough to be away from the noise. The hotel is also steps away from the marina, several tram and bus lines, and a lot of restaurant options.

The hotel is in an old building with one elevator and the room is on the smaller side, but nothing unusual for Europe. Thus, the best word that comes to mind is "adequate."

The breakfast is okay and offers enough options to do the job. So again, I use the word "adequate" here.

The only downsides are that the reception desk is kind of slow and they charge for the sauna.

I stayed in the hotel for 1 night (2-6-2014). It was an average hotel, price wise not cheap. The location is close to city centre (20 min walk) at a not-so-nice neighborhood. The rooms were clean, but small. ``````view from the window is not very pleasant. The breakfast was below average. I even found some woman's hair on my plate while eating. It looks like a very old hotel, so amenities are also old. Not recommended -- but if you have no other option, you can stay there for short time.
