“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

The moment we entered the hotel we were made to feel welcome from the friendly smile from the hotel reception staff! We had booked the 'superior plus' room and now had a choice of room with a bathtub or a sauna. Sauna it was! The check-in was quick and we were told about the breakfast times and the restaurants in the hotel.

The room was on the fifth floor overlooking the Paasi Square. The room was very spacious. There was a sofa, armchair and a dining table for 4 people. The kitchenette was equipped with coffee/tea making facilities (only with coffee creamer though), a fridge and a microwave oven. The bed was king size and it was very comfortable. The dim lighting in the toilet was great if you needed to go in the middle of the night: you didn't need to switch on the bright main light on...

The sauna was a good size, and nice and hot! I think the first time we had set the temperature too high as the 'löyly', the steam was burning hot. Or maybe we poured too much water on the stones at once! But anyway it was very relaxing to have it in your room.

The breakfast was the usual good standard Scandic breakfast with nice and varied choice of food and drinks. The orange juice (from the iPad operated juice machine!) was tasting like a freshly squeezed juice.

The hotel is very near to tram and bus stops, and the metro station. It's only a quick walk from the main shopping areas of central Helsinki too.

We loved the hotel and the service, the reasonable prices. The fast and free wi-fi is great. We will be back in the summer!

Room Tip: If you want to relax in the room, choose a room with a sauna!

Dear MarkSquared,
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed our superior plus room during your stay as our guests. You are so right, sauna in a hotel room is very relaxing detail and memorable experience. And thank you for sharing your very nice pictures, which sum up your friendly story in a great way. You wrote you will be back in the summer - just wonderful. You are so warmly welcome!

Really cool design property - the first of their 'story' properties in Helsinki.

Set on the place of the cities old circus you'll find the theme carried throughout the hotel - from the check in staff with suspenders and the look of a ringmaster to the wall paper (if you get the circus themed room!)

Set just off the main street, trams and metro are just a minutes walk away and can take you to the station, to the water, or anywhere else in the city you want to go.

One thing that I didn't really like about the hotel, but I think this could be because I've been spoilt by staying at some other properties lately, is that you need to pay for extra amenities (a comb, etc.) and the mini bar selection is quite small (but as always quite pricey.)

The lounge downstairs is nice to sit and relax in, and there are some good food options in the area.

Would definitely stay again. :)

The Scandic Paasi is well located for those that want to be within a sensible distance of the action in Helsinki, but at the same time want to ensure a peaceful stay in the city. Situated in Hakaniemi, just off the main drag, the Paasi is close to transport links including trams, the metro line and a number of buses including the 615 airport service.

This hotel is not your run of the mill Scandic affair, but has set itself halfway between being a standard chain hotel and an upmarket boutique offering. Located in what looks to be a converted office block at the front, and a number of older buildings plus a new extension to the rear, the hotel is a melee of styles and ages. The designers have capitalised on this, and three distinct themes run throughout the hotel; 1920's, 1950's and 2000's. I was given a 1920's theme room for my 5 night stay at the hotel, and while certain aspects of the room will not be to everyone's taste - the heart shaped pillows have been mentioned before - I found my room rather pleasant, if only a little small for a longer stay. The decor included a black leather headboard, dark wood floors and doors and wallpaper with silhouettes of "The colourful characters of Siltasaari" among other things.

In terms of hotel facilities, it has everything you could need for a city trip; service at check in and the lobby bar were, as always with the Scandic group, excellent, and other facilities included a lounge, gym, small 'business centre' and the Juttutupa and Graniittilinna restaurants. The former is a fairly laid-back affair, serving food similar to UK pub-grub, whereas the latter is more a-la-carte offering steaks, blini and reindeer. I sampled food in both, and I had no issues at all; the reindeer was cooked to perfection. Of course, with Scandic, breakfast is included, and this certainly did not disappoint. I'd love to have one of those i-pad juice dispensers in my kitchen!

All in all the Scandic Paasi did not let me down; both the room and service were excellent, and I would not hesitate to return again. I would just mention that for me, this is certainly a leisure destination owing to the boutique style, and 'circus' theme that resonates throughout - it's up my street, but some may find it a little too 'quirky'.

I very much look forward to coming back to the hotel on my next trip to Helsinki!

Room Tip: For longer stays, consider a Superior room as I found my room a little small for 5 nights.

What more do you need than friendly efficient staff who cannot help you enough. Great comfortable rooms with everything you need already included such as iron and board. Brilliant large selection at breakfast with big comfortable room. Very reasonable room rates.
This will be my hotel of choice whilst visiting helsinki.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel with nice accommodation and great staff. The breakfast choice was huge and of good qualty, the decor is fun and quirky and the hotel was very clean. The location of the hotel was good as it was near the market hall, good bars and restaurants and only a short walk to the hub of the city. We would definitely stay here again

We spent the New Year´s Eve at Scandic Paasi with my husband 31.12.13-1.1.14 and truly enjoyed our stay. This place is not a typical scandinavian style hotel with the harmonic brown, grey and white -decoration. Paasi is a story-hotel with strong colors and circus-theme. We had a Superior plus room with the spectacular-theme which means there was a nice luxury-flavor with king size -bed, sofas and small kitchen in the corner. I think this 40-49 m2 size room was just like a suite. And still the price was very reasonable for a New Year´s Eve (192 €). Also the breakfast was very tastefull and the staff friendly. I could come back any time.

Room Tip: Remember to ask if you can have a room with the sauna! There should be saunas in some of the Superio...

This is a very nice, relatively new hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, great location close to the center city and to all transportation modes. (Hakaniemi, which is a stop on the airport bus, the metro, and many bus and tram lines, is a block away.) Outstanding buffet breakfast. The hotel is very much a modern design hotel, and I was afraid it would be the kind of place where the design is over the top and gets in the way. But it wasn’t; it was very functional and comfortable. I would absolutely choose this hotel again.
