“Really nice, especially location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

Nice hotel in the city center. Maybe one of the best prices for the reasonably good room in such good location - near central railway station and right next to the shopping center Kamppi (with its huge supermarket, numerous cafes and restaurants, underground coach station), with good breakfast and free of charge indoor swimming pool and sauna (working hours should be checked, it isn`t open all day long). I agree that rooms need renovation, but they are still ok. We have stayed there for 7 nights and found it quite convenient, but there were some problems with tidying up the room – it’s absolutely impossible to predict its begining time. Attached paper sign “Please, clean up my room” is absent - only “Please, do not disturb”. So, tidying up can be finished till midday or even not started after 17.00, and you never know whether your bath towels were changed or not. In hotel with swimming pool it’s a problem. Anyway, you can find chambermaid on your floor and ask her/him to clean up the room and/or change towels - staff were really very attentive. Beds and pillows were very good = good dream. Breakfast was also good but with the same options every morning. Some days it was busy at breakfast room but without lines for food or table, staff there were just excellent.

Choiced the hotel near railway station,as we needed a late overnight stay after flight ,and buses from airport arrive nearby. Also the bus to harbour goes from near,so this was our criteria.
Arrived quite late and got our room fast.It was medium, nothing special, but the beds were comfortabel and what else you need to sleep one night. But I found a long black hair on my towel, what was not a pleasant surprise. Also the light of bathroom went suddenly off and came back only in the morning,The hotel is quite old and dated, you see it everywhere.Bad that you cant make any tea or coffee in your room,as we arrived late and everything was closed.Minibar is very expensive, typical for Finland.
But we liked morning sauna and a good breakfast on high floor with nice views of Helsinki. The restaurant was quite full and the cleaning was slow though.
It was OK stay to sleep and just go.Very central, good for all kind of transport.

We stayed at the Sokos Presidentti in Helsinki for four nights in August 2011. The hotel has several hundred rooms and caters mainly to tourist groups. The location is very central.

The hotel seems to deal well with the apparently rapid turn-round, although check-in queues were long and slow, with rooms not available for many guests even after the earliest check-in time of 15:30. Breakfast was substantial and well-organised.

Our room was clean and functional, but strangely with no night-table on one side of the bed. A tv, phone, mini-bar, ironing and board were provided, as was free wi-fi, but no tea/coffee facilities. Clothes hanging space was minimal.

She used the sauna and reported it to be a delight. We did not use the bar, restaurant or night-club.

Would we stay again? On vacation, possibly. On business, no – there was no good work space and apparently no business centre.

We checked into this hotel several times over a 3-week period as a home base for our European vacation.

Haven't stayed in any other hotels in Scandanavia, so I can only compare to other European and North American hotels.

We found the hotel to be in decent shape but showing it's age - the bathrooms were clean but older, and we had varying amounts of success with the air conditioning. The windows did not open to get a breeze, so on hotter days it felt stuffy.

Our rate included the breakfast buffet, which was always busy and was pretty good

The staff were very pleasant and friendly, but seemed to lack urgency at busy times.

Had difficulty with connecting my laptop to wireless Internet. Their helpdesk was not helpful. I spoke to what felt like an answering service a few times, explained my issue, and NEVER received a call back. Thankfully I could get online with my iPad and follow my e-mails that way. On the brigher side, it was included in our reservation and the speed was good - connection was good except for rooms at the edge of the hotel.

This hotel had a pool which was nice, but it was only open for a few hours in the morning and a few in the evening. It was part of the sauna area, and not heated. Would have been good for those using it out of the sauna, but for children who wanted to just go for a swim, was a bit chilly.

Rooms had a bar fridge, but no coffee maker, kettle or fixings for hot drinks.

Housekeeping did a good job - our room was kept very clean.

This hotel is located within walking distance (which, in Finland, can be a mile or two) from the rail station and other means of public transportation. The lobby is nice, but the staff was not sufficient to accomodate everybody in early evening, and the lines to check in were kind of long. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room I had was sufficient in size - bigger than you'd get in New York City, for example, in a similar type of hotel - and there were three small beds which were quite comfortable. Very clean. No carpet, hard floors. No bath, just a shower. There was a minibar stocked with things to buy in the room. Phone and old TV, no clock. One might expect more for the price in the US, but this is not the US, and everything is more expensive in Finland. Free breakfast, but don't expect waffles or bacon - it's a different style of food, including such surprises (to American palates) as cooked herring, small frankfurters, meatballs, salad, cold cuts, and cheese slices. (Yes, for breakfast.) I wish there had been a restaurant open in the hotel, and I was not aware of a pool.

The hotel is great worth for money. It is ideally located in the very heart of Helsinki close to just about everything. The rooms might not be huge, but they are certainly not small, and are very comfortable. These include a TV set (with stations in Finnish, Swedish, Russian, English and Japanese), a bathtub or shower, a gair dryer, an iron + board. If you need a safe, you can get a private one downstairs at reception. The windows in the room don't open, but you can get a key with reception and open them.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, though if groups are checking in/out, the line get get quite big. The reception hall also include 3 free Internet stations.
The breakfast is very, very hearty and good. This is a big hotel though, so the breakfast room, though big, can often get quite crowded. don't let it discourage you...
On the whole, as said before, great value for money. I have always been pleased with it (It used to bea Ramada hoterl once) and will keep coming back here each time I will visit my beloved Finland.

I just got back after 3 nights at Sokos Predientti Hotel. I must say that this is one of my favourite hotels in Helsink (I have lived there for 9 years). It's close to all the public transportantions and really close to both sights and the city center.

Good things about the hotel:
Great Value (we have always got a room for about 100 euros per night or less)
Breakfast is really good
Location is THE BEST
Close to the bus terminal which lies in Kamppi (it's one of the opposit buildings)
The cleaners have always given me/us a nice Hello when we are leaving/returning to our room.
Rooms are very minimalistic and clean. There are payTV and a good minibar in rooms.
There is a pool available for hotel guests at the top flor.
Restaurant (Sevilla) and bar at the ground floor

Something that could improve:
We asked to get a room earlier than 3 PM (which is check in time) but they couldn't give rooms before that. So when we arrived at 3 PM we had to wait 45 minutes to check in. Imagine 3-400 guests who have waited all day to check in. I think the hotel should give you rooms if possible so that it wouldn't be that crowded.
It's quite busy at the breakfast so I recommend to be there early if you don't want to struggle to find available seats.

We more or less always check out the price of this hotel when we are visiting. We think that you get great value for your money if you get a good offer.
