“Easy place to stay for a short visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

This hostel has lots of pluses - neat rooms with space for your gear, a coin operated laundry, luggage store and bar. It's an easy walk to town centre and restaurants or a tram ride if you feel lazy (or have bags!) The negatives for me were having to pay for wi-fi even if it is only a couple of euro. I didn't like the frosted glass saloon doors in the shared showers, I felt very exposed. Overall an easy place to stay for a short visit.

Stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour of Scandinavia in May 2014.

The hostel is in a good location, it's about a 10 minute walk to the outdoor market and harbour. We had a twin room on the third floor - the rooms and whole building itself look as though they've been refurbished fairly recently. The room had plenty of wardrobe space, two mirrors and a TV (not flat screen but then we weren't there to watch TV). The mattresses were good and I didn't hear any noise from adjacent rooms.

There are male and female bathrooms at different ends of each floor - the men's had a couple of cubicles (and played in the noise of birdsong from speakers 24/7). There were also 3 shower cubicles and 3 sinks too - as others have said, the cowboy / Western swing-style frosted doors aren't full length and do have a slight gap in them when you're using the shower so it's best to put a towel or something over the gap. The water did take a while to get hot, but once it did it was fine and the water pressure was good. There's also a communal kitchen on each floor but other than the reception area, as envercyilmaz says below, there isn't really any opportunity to socialise and meet anyone new. Wifi signal was good in all the rooms - you do pay extra and have the option to get standard, or super-fast depending on what you want to do.

The breakfast downstairs was okay - the scrambled eggs looked to be from a packet, but there were boiled eggs, as well as sausages, cereals and juice. One thing to be careful of is the lift as the doors are built into the walls of the lift shaft, so as it rises, the walls move with you. One person did get something caught so just be careful.

Overall, this was a good hostel with new facilities in a great location.

If you want to be close to the city center and don't want to spend much It's a good choice. Euro Hostel is located in Katajanokka neighborhood, where you can see nice buildings and Uspenskin Cathedral. There is a supermarket and tram stop in the walking distance. It is also very close to the sea.

Rooms are very small and it feels like a prison. Walls are thin, and you can hear nearly everything from the adjacent room. Showers are nice and clean but they don't have doors so you have to shower like that. There is a common kitchen in every floor, where you can cook, eat and watch TV, but you have to pay if you want to keep food in the fridge. Also you should pay something like 7 Euro for each person for Wi-fi. This place looks more like a Hotel, so there is a little chance for Hostel type of socialization. All the stuff are in the ground floor, and they are helpful and kind.

This hostel was in a great location with a tram stop directly out the front and a supermarket just a 3 minute walk away. Staff were very friendly and helpful with maps, tram tickets, fridge keys etc. They also have a laundry on site right at reception which was great. The kitchen was small but had everything you needed along with fridge lockers. You just have to leave a small deposit at reception for a key. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The only downside to this hostel were the showers. The showers have timers which turn the shower off constantly. My first shower was cold and they have sea through swing doors with a gap so you will be seen naked unless you hang a towel over the gap. Other than the showers this hostel is perfect! Would stay again.

Basic budget place, no frills -- which is fine, but there was a terrible smell (like a pile of old socks) that hit me in the face when I walked into my room, and since the windows can't be opened more than a crack, I was stuck with it the whole night. (Staff wouldn't move me since the place was full, nor would/could they open the window past a crack, due to "security issues."

It takes a lot to bother me, but having my room smell like a gym locker room certainly qualifies.

Also be aware that wi-fi is extra. For some reason I had it written down in my notes that wi-fi was included (probably from a guidebook).

Room Tip: Room 230 had a terrible odor. Not sure if it's just that room, the rooms around it, or what, but...

We stayed here. A bit of a stretch walking from the Olympia ferry terminal with big bags but we managed. A bit far from the centre unfortunately. We were on the 6th floor also which was frustrating and male toilets at other end of building. Rooms were basic and overpriced even for Helsinki

My daughter and I stayed here on our way to another city in Finland. We arrived late but were greeted kindly and all our questions were answered to our satisfaction. I already knew that the Internet was an extra 2 Euros but the staff told us apologetically that the Internet was extra. One drawback is that the Internet can only be used by one person at a time in the room. The Internet in the lobby may be better but we didn't use it. The room was simple but the beds comfortable and the bathroom was right across the hall. Staff ordered us a taxi in the morning. I would definitely stay here again.
If you arrive late, you should be warned that there isn't anywhere to eat nearby. The hostel does, however, have a vending machine, and we made a dinner of chips and chocolate.
