“Nice price and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

My daughter and I stayed here on our way to another city in Finland. We arrived late but were greeted kindly and all our questions were answered to our satisfaction. I already knew that the Internet was an extra 2 Euros but the staff told us apologetically that the Internet was extra. One drawback is that the Internet can only be used by one person at a time in the room. The Internet in the lobby may be better but we didn't use it. The room was simple but the beds comfortable and the bathroom was right across the hall. Staff ordered us a taxi in the morning. I would definitely stay here again.
If you arrive late, you should be warned that there isn't anywhere to eat nearby. The hostel does, however, have a vending machine, and we made a dinner of chips and chocolate.

Considering the other hostel and budget options in Helsinki, Eurohostel is probably the best one. The two of us booked one of the "fancier" rooms for one night, and both of us came out with a positive experience. The room itself resembled a your average college dorm, but much cleaner with a good amount of closet and floor space for luggage. The shared bathrooms were in excellent condition--clean and modern. Showers could use a bit more privacy, but other than that, no complaints! The hotel restaurant had good prices for Helsinki, especially for dinner and beer. WiFi isn't free unless you're a member of Hosteling International, but it's only 2 euros for 24 hours access on one device. Location is pretty good--about a 5 minute tram ride away from the center, or a 15 minute walk to the Lutheran church and the Kauppahalli (Old Market Hall). Definitely the best you can get for under 30euros a night in Helsinki!

Room Tip: Enjoy the sauna in the mornings!

Eurohostel is huge--probably 80 rooms--but it functions brilliantly thanks to a wonderful set of staff. They're on hand around the clock, and all speak English; they'll sell you bus passes, postcards and stamps, laundry powder, and point out on the wall map all the nearby places you might want to see. The rooms are basic, but I loved the fact that the desk is huge; as a traveler that's what I really need to feel organised. For a deposit you can get a small lockbox in the fridge on your floor and your doorcard gains you access to a fully equipped kitchen. If you don't want to cook there's a pub-style restaurant with a friendly, casual vibe attached to the hostel and you can buy breakfast by booking it the night before. Helsinki is an easy town to walk around in--the Kauppatori market is 5 minutes away and if you're feeling lazy the no. 4 tram will take you to the train station along Aleksanterinkatu, one of the main shopping streets. The area around Eurohostel is near where the ferries drop off; it's quiet, safe, and clean. For a budget traveler, this is a great choice in what is a very expensive city.

I used single room of this hostel for two days in April. It was so comfortable that the room was so clean and we can use ''morning sauna'' for free.
Self-Breakfast tasted also good.
Location was not so bad,
From this hostel to central of helsinki, it takes about 5 min by tram.
It was easy to go sightseeng.
Otherwise, the tram station heading this hostel is a little bit far from central staion and difficult to find at first. I took taxi to arrive there.

Good staff,Good location! Tove Jansson, who made Moomin, lived Katajanokka district and this hostel locates around there. This hostel is nearby a station "vyokatu". To get tram#4, You can use "Lasipalatsi" station from Helsinki Central station.

First of all, it was a bit expencive, 50eur per night without a breakfast and free internet? I traveled to Nordkapp, and i can compare it to oders hostels during my trip.
second, in my bed i found somebodys few hair, and the wc smelled like one big urine tank - not clean!!

Paid internet access...in our times??

Not worth to stay!

never seen as amazing bathrooms on a hostel, rarely in 3 star hotels.
takes 20~25 min to walk to the center, tram #4 neds 10 min and services frequently until 1.30 at night
probably not so much a oarty place as the communal kitchens need to be left by 11 pm (thats normal i have to admit) and no acceptable alternative is there
sauna in the mornings for free, in the evenings for small money available. free wifi if your HI-member, otherwise you have to py litte money
