“More like a hotel than a hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

I was so happy with this hostel! I stayed with a friend for 3 nights, and it was such a nice change to have a room to ourselves. Great value for Scandinavia! We booked the backpacker category but had a tv in our room which was great for when the weather was awful and we just couldn't go out. The hostel is in a great location, about a 10 minute walk to Market Square and right by a tram stop which gives you easy access to the city centre. My only complaint was that the kitchen was pretty poorly equipped so if you're staying longer than a few days you might need to get a few things to cook with.

I stayed there for one night as I waited for morning flight, my room turned out to be just near the lift. The location and reception service was rather good.
But it wasn't possible to sleep for the whole night because of the noise from the lift, endless loud and squeaky doors shutting, noisy ventilation, awful very old pillow. I would had better stayed at the airport with the same result but no additional expenses.
Moreover it appeared to be dirty in toilets and there was garbage from the previous guests in my room, they just covered it with garbage bag!

There's nothing great to say about this hostel, its a bit of a hike from city center so be prepared to walk. There is also no age limit so be prepared to see a lot of older men wandering around. I really did not like that the internet did not work in the rooms. Many backpackers, like myself, rely on being able to use the internet to book tours and research things to do. I ended up going to internet cafes everyday to use their internet bc this hostel had a terrible connection. Its 2013, I think hostels should have reliable internet by now. The showers were also terrible. However the rooms and bathrooms were reasonably clean. Helsinki is an expensive city so it is a good value for the price.

Stayed there 2 nights.

The location is good; it's located at a walking distance to all the city center, in less than 10 min one can reach the Senate Square (where is located the Helsinki Cathedral) or the Market Square (where the ferrys to Suomenlinna departures).

Stayed in a Twin room; room as clean, and spacious, there is also a TV. On each floor there is a kitchen available, and on the top floor there is a sauna (included in the room price - only in the morning). I didn't used it, but there is also washing/drying machines available for a small fee.

Staff was always nice, and in the reception there are lots of touristic information available (such as maps, brochures, etc.)

The only downside is that there is no free Wi-fi.

Given the general prices in Finland, this hostel is not expensive; the facilities are very good, and worth the money.

Would certainly recommend a stay.

Helsinki's Eurohostel is based in the lovely scenic district of Katajanokka. The views from the 'Eurohostel category' twin rooms on the third or so floor were really peaceful and worth every cent paid for our three night trip. Value for accommodation was exceptional among other places to stay in the city. It's about a 15/20 minute walk to Senate Square / Senaatintori.
The rooms themselves were well equipped - bedding not required - small tables with lamps, a larger table with two chairs, ceiling hung TV, wardrobe space for each guest and a mirror with inbuilt light. Plenty of storage if I recall correctly.
Self catering facilities were pleasant; there were two kitchen areas per floor which provide you with a fridge (10,00€ for a private fridge locker) and basic necessities like dishes, cutlery, pots, pans and a microwave oven.
Shared bathroom facilities (male/female separated) per floor were modern and with no issues whatsoever.

You are entitled to a free sauna session in the mornings and with an upgrade per day of 8,50€ you can help yourself to continental breakfast from 7am. Personally I found it a little tasteless but nothing to worry about, there are vendors on the ground floor and in desperate measures, a nearby small supermarket on the way to the city centre.
TV use in your room and Wi-Fi comes at extra costs but there is also a internet browsing kiosk in the lobby where you can pay for your time; 2,00€ / 15 minutes.

I would definitely visit Eurohostel again for it's affordability and pure tranquility of my stay. I fell in love with Helsinki by staying here!
My only complaint would be the restaurant/bar area which is pricey and quiet, though I'm sure that could easily be remedied by exploring the city.

This hostel has stuck with me since my travels almost 2 years ago, so needed a review!

Helsinki is a VERY expensive city and it's just awsome that so budget place like Eurohostel exist. Great location - near main attractions and the same time very peacfull. On island near the port. Sometimes you can hear sounds of a huge ferries but most of a time - quiet. Near the hostel - pub and market. Clean comfy rooms and great bathrooms. Free sauna every morning! Only two things is bad: 1) wi-fi is not free and very weak, 2) walls made from....from paper i think, because you can hear like peoples in other room breathing. I'm serious, it's not a joke. You can't see them but you hear EVERY move of them.

Hostel was clean and in a decent location. Many things such as breakfast and wifi cost more. My friend paid for wifi but it was a new system so didn't work in our room and had to get a refund. Try offered a free morning sauna which my friend liked an took advantage of 2x. The hostel wasn't very social. We stayed in a weekend which was the only time they don't have planned activities. This would have been nice especially if your a solo traveler. All in all it was ok
