Seurasaari Island provides a nice view on how Finnish people lived in various parts of the country. Wooden huts, houses and manors give an authentic cross-section of typical housing up to the 1950's in the countryside.
My favorites are huge rowing boats, with tens of oarmen and seats up to 60-80 persons. In the summer, they smell of pine tar. Resemble very much Vikingboats.
Accompany someone with proper knowledge of Finnish history and life outside Helsinki (ordinary Helsinki folks do not qualify), wait for a warm summer day, and a lovely trip to the history of this grey country is available! Or, actually ask the personnel, they know it better - and master the vocabulary for the things (also in English), we can not name in our mother tongue either nowadays.
