“Lovely room in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

We spent three nights at this hotel in July. The location is terrific. You can walk to the harbor to get the boats or go to the market for your breakfast. Public transportation is right around the corner as is the tourist information center. Our "executive double" room was the most luxurious we had on our 25 day Scandianvian trip. The room included toiletries, robe, slippers, a lot of light, TV, fridge, desk with with two chairs, separate table with another chair, 3-drawer cabinet for clothes, safe, ironing board and iron, umbrella, pants press, "real" hangers, full bath with separate shower and bathtub, vanity mirror and complete set of toiletries (rare for Scandinavian hotels we found), and lots of towels. International Herald Tribune and Financial Times in lobby in the mornings. Lending library with limited selection of books right off the reception area. Yes, one might expect all this of a 5-star hotel, but not all 5-stars provide these items. Typical of expensive hotels, they charge a fortune for wifi, but the tourist information center has free wifi and is only 2 blocks away.
We parked in the Kluuvikatu parking area rather than the hotel's valet parking. It was 900 NK for three days.... not cheap either. Because we booked early and stayed for three days and the euro was declining relative to the dollar, we had an excellent stay for less than lesser hotels during our trip.
We did not eat at the hotel as breakfast did not come with the room and we easily found other places for dinners.

with my wife we booked for a long weekend `helsinki and although my favorite hotel Haven was fully booked, we expect to get a same quality from a 5* hotel Kamp.
Not at all and if you can book Hotel Haven for the same price or even less, dont hesitate a second!
We had to wait at the reception for check in and thanks to an outspoken tourist who waited enough, they called assistance for check in.
The staff is according to the what they learned in the book, friendly, bur w/o engagement.
Because of the late afternoon arrival we decided to have diner in the brasserie: dont do it and go downtown. waiter was basically friendly but we had to remind him several times what we ordered, repeat the requests and really felt ignored at all.
Rooms are ok w/o a soul and all basic things for a stay are there but thats it.
Conclusion: avoid it and go elsewhere for yr stay, b/f and diner.
Restaurants we recommand: Havis, b/f at hotel Haven or simply go to the market near the harbour and enjoy the local fisch, etc.

Lately when I checked in at Kämp they told me that that was my 99th visit. So I guess I can say I know the hotel by now.

Rooms are great - including the standard ones. Location is amazing.
Breakfast could be better from an aesthetic point of view; taste is great but it does not match central European 5 start level at all. But Fazer is across the street. is I can live with that

The Japanese is good food, waiter performance could be improved easily.

Kämp brasserie is my favorite and most of the waiters do not speak any Finnish :-)

The new Finnish cuisine upstairs with local herbs you can visit if you have nothing else to do.

The spa is great, though mostly crowded with colleagues from the east.

All that said it is still my home in Helsinki. I like it. Even though I must say it is over priced compared to Haven and Fabian which are getting higher on my list. I still love the location and the ambiance in the bar - it would be better with more personnel though.

The new glass house outside is also great.

Room Tip: view to the sspalanade

Presumably, this hotel is not number 1 based on cost as it surely trumps every other hotel in Helsinki.
The Kamp is well deserved of its 5 Star ranking. It's slap bang in the centre of Helsinki, the rooms are all of a VERY high standard, the beds are very comfortable, as are all the other features of the room.
The gym offers everything you could want (I expect a lot from a gym!). There is no pool but in a city centre hotel, who's asking. There is also a spa area with Hamam, Sauna & Steam room. The Kamp Cafe & bar is a great hangout place, almost 7 nights a week and serves AMAZING bloody maries. Room service and the main restaurant serve great food. Steer clear of the organic restaurant which is extremely expensive. I'm not quite sure who would eat there other than the visiting neighbouring Russians!
What sets this hotel apart from the rest, and even many other high end 5 star hotels is the service. They will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is pleasant and if it's not, they'll do best to accomodate. Nothing negative to say about this hotel.

Hotel Kamp made our vacation in Helsinki one of the best. Our room was clean and spacious. The bathroom large with many towels and all sorts of goodies ... bath salts , body lotions fancy soaps etc...The location was in the center of town on the Esplanade ( equal to New York's Central Park). The room was cleaned and restocked each day great place to come back after a long day of site-seeing. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Helsinki

Room Tip: We ask for a room not facing the front so it was quiet at night

If you like a very traditional hotel, as central as there is, and can afford to pay the bill, this is the right choice.

The standard is up to date, but the style is more like from a novel / film about the first decades of the 20th century.

We very much enjoyed our stay there.

Beds and other furniture held high quality.

The bathroom was a luxurious pleasure for the eye.

As typical for Finland, you pay for the services you wish to use. At check out, that may come as a surprise, unless you're mentally prepared.

Breakfast buffet was good (ok, ...very good) although expensive. We preferred to sleep long mornings and have lunch at another restaurant.

Had a very good two night stay at this hotel, check in was a little slow but ok. Staff seemed to be switched on and very helpful. The location is as my title said, is perfect, right in the middle of everything. Room was nice and clean if not a little small but no complaints there. Did not try out the breakfast but from what I could see it looked really good. Taxis were not a problem as there is a taxi stand on the corner (turn right out of the hotel and it is on the left hand side). Only negative was that it did not have a swimming pool. Overall a good stay

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for one at the back of the hotel as there is a cafe / bar at the front...
