“Cold and windy, but a great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014 via mobile

Suomenlinna is a fortress on an island near Helsinki. It was an easy ferry ride from market square. It was freezing and windy when I went to visit, but the museum was great and I enjoyed walking around the island. I bet it is spectacular in the summer!

“Ok would be better with a guided tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Guided tours are only offered on Sat & Sun. Outside these times you are left to wander with just a guide sheet from the Information office. Would be better if more tours were offered more often.

“Very interesting, scenic views on walking paths.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014 via mobile

Enjoyed watching the huge ferries 'squeezing' through the narrow openings to dock in Helsinki. We sat down on the walls at the big gates, and just enjoyed the sights and sounds.

“Enchanting”

We enjoyed walking through Finland's living history. Beautiful! The fortress was interesting and have a taste of the beginnings of history.

“The place to spend a summer day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

Go here on a summer day, take picknick stuff and swimming gear, good shoes and some adventure spirit. The island is beautiful, unique. Your kids would love it, I did, as a child. If you fancy local beer, there is a brewery on the island or if a secluded café is more to your style, go look for the Piper or Valimo at the wharf. You can run into a museum submarine on the way and there's plenty of tunnels and pretty little meadows to explore. People go here to paint or photograph or just hang around. There are rocky small very unofficial looking swimming places at cliffs between the 1st ww naval guns and a teeny-tiny beach on the far side. The only downside to this island is the fact that there will be other tourists. There is a fine dining restaurant called Valhalla (you will need a reservation) and a nice reasonably priced pizzeria called Nikolai next to Kuninkaanportti (King's Gate or Landing). The only thing you have to pay to get to the island is the ferry fee which is only something like 4 euro. Remember to buy your ticket at the pier "office" before you go and before you leave. The ferry is nice and goes around every 20 minutes taking 20 min to get there. Enjoy!
