“Best option for low budget”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

I spent one night there with my wife and my daughter. We were looking for a low budget quiet hotel in the city centre and I think this was the best option. For the cost of the night it was perfect. The best: the location, the peace of the place and the fresh modern new rooms. The worst part was that maybe the rooms could be a bit better clean. It was done fast in the main areas and some dust were collected in some areas. Anyhow for the price paid it is not possible to have everything excellent.

We stayed at the hotel (Yrjönkatu) which was extremely cheap for Helsinki. It was also 10mins walk from the main train station - very central to everything.
Our room was spacious, quite minimalistic but totally functional - double bed, table with 2 chairs, large television and a bathroom cubicle containing a toilet and shower.
The whole idea of no reception or seeing hotel staff is quite novel :)

What a find! I'm a 65 year old senior citizen who travels solo. This hotel is on a very quiet side street adjacent to a luxury hotel. It is only 10 minutes from the train station and also the bus stop for the FinnAir bus that goes to the airport. There is lots of shopping and a grocery store on the bottom floor of a 5 story shopping plaza. The city library is nearby and you may email there for free. This hotel emails you the door code and room number 24 hours before checkin. The place is spotless all the way from the street door including your room. There is a microwave and refrigerator and a tv which you may use as an alarm clock. There was no noise outside or inside this hotel. There is no front desk but there is an emergency phone by the elevator when you enter.

was worried at first about it being a staffless hotel - you are given your room and door code 24 hours before your stay...All went smoothly however, and there is a help phone at the main entrance and you can access them through the room television as well. Wifi signal was very good - Some people will go 4 people to a room but its more decently sized for 1 person or cozy with 2. I stayed 2 nights a time within a week (went to Estonia inbetween) found the first rooms shower not the cleanest...but the second room was better. The location is quite good , just behind the shopping mall (Forum) and 5 minute walk (slight uphill) from train station.. in fact it goes train station then 1 block west is the Forum and then the hotel is on a quiet road right beside the Sokos Torni. For all in all it was decent room for Helsinki prices in a good location near shops and clubs but on a quiet road beside the action instead of in it :)

What a lovely hotel! My two daughters were impressed. This is a self service hotel. You do not see any staff.
The room- measured the room to be 21 ft. 3 inches x 9 ft. 10 inches. Big or small its up to you.
It was divided into two general areas by the bathroom/ "kitchen" stand. Upon entering the room, you will
be greeted by two beds (80 x 32 inches)fronted by a 32 inc (approx) flat screen TV. The mattress is soft and comfortable. My wife loved it. The pillow is soft and
the comforter is relatively thick. The first area is separtated from the second by the bathroom cubicle.
The second area, by the windows (which cannot be opened) contained a table
with two chairs. It also has 2 single "sofa" seats which opens up to your third and fourth beds (76 x 34 inches). The red sofa pillow
cases contain the actual pillows, bed sheets, comforter and a towel. There is an instruction set on the wall of the
bathroom cubicle on how to unfold the beds. It was very easy. There are also two luggage tables
(don't really know what you call them).
There are two european outlets in the main and none in the minor area.
Free Wifi available by logging in withyour room number and personal code.
There is no cabinet. There are 9 wall hooks around the place with several hangers.
You can choose to turn on only the lights in the main area or the minor area or both with the 4 in 1 light switch.
For longer stays, the room is serviced every 5 days.
A bone of contention might be the AC. You have no control over the temperature or the speed at which it blows. It was a
tad warm but nothing to really complain about. My kids said they were a bit warm. I felt OK without the comforter.
The bathroom- outside measurements (56x81 inches) and is found to be a little off center of the room along a wall.
Part of this cubicle is taken up by a sort of stand facing the outside. It contains the fridge, the
microwave and some coffee, etc.

The bathroom light is automatic- sensor controlled. The shower comes from the ceiling, not the side of a wall. The hot water is hot and the pressure is good. The floor is non slip.
It has two toilet paper rolls- the second one is found behind the first one under the sink. You would
never see it if you are not looking for it. There are two covered european type outlets. The hairdryer
is found outside and works pretty well. There are two towels on the stand. If there are 4 in your party and
need an additional two, they are found in the pillow cases found on the fold-away chairs.
A large bottle of apple-scented combined soap/shampoo/ conditioner solution was provided.
There is a flexible water spout. You turn on the faucet in the sink, then depress the lever on the flexi-
ble water spout and water comes out of it for- ??? To wash your self after pooping?
The " Kitchen" stand- the fridge (bottom shelf) works very well. Kept my water and soda cold. So did the microwave
(middle shelf).
The top shelf contained 8 plastic cups, 4 small stirring spoons, several coffee, tea, sugar and
creamer sachets. It also has the electric kettle which I made a 3/4 full pot of water. It boiled the water
in about 4-5 minutes.
The Security- you have to input your code several times before you can get to your room. First at the main door,
leading to an area (your " front desk" ) with a vending machine, a computer console, and a phone to get help
( just lift it and you will be connected to someone). Then you have to input the code again for the second door.
You are now in the first floor hallway. To walk up the stairs, you have to input your code again to get to the
stairwell and again to open the door to your floor. Then one more time to your room. If you use the elevator, you
have to input your code before you can press the floor you want.
I was able to enter the bldg 5 minutes before the 4 pm entry time. code worked like a charm until I reached the room.
Then it would not work. Went to the phone at the " front desk" told my name and which hotel I was in and was
told that my room was 302 and not 201 (which was in our original booking). Turns out they sent me an email the day
before which I did not read informing me of the room change. My fault.
There are also several close circuit cameras all over.
Around the area- below at the ground floor are two restaurants. If you walk out to the main road, is the simonkatu stop
for the 3T tram- great for using to see the city. Across is the Forum shopping center with a basement for fast foods.. Within a 10-1`5 minute walk, is the area around the central railway station. There is an ATM nearby. By going down the stairs to the subway ( you will see a MacDonald sign near the stair entrance), you have several coffee shops, a nepalese restaurant, Chili (fast food), a supermarket, internet terminals (2 euro/ hr) and a Hesburger. Really convenient location.
The only drawback was that I did not find any laundry facility nearby.
For my rate ((55 euros), I say that this is an extremely great deal.

After fumbling with our door code, we got in and found our room. The room was smallish but comfortable and functional with a good shower. An electric kettle with real tea available (in bags) was a bonus although the disposable plastic cups were not what we are used to. At first, we were a bit anxious about not having a reception desk where information could be obtained but everything was well set up and no problems occurred anyway.
The room could sleep up to 4 but it would be a little cramped.
The shower worked well and the flooring was not the type that would be slippery. The bed was comfortable. Power points were positioned around the room so access for my sleep apnea machine was convenient.
The room was a little warm for our liking. The windows couldn't be opened so we had to rely on the ventilation system which was OK after we got used to it.
There is no guest laundry and we couldn't find out if there was a laundromat nearby.
Breakfast was by an arrangement with a nearby cafe called Picnic in the Forum building across the street. This worked well and the selection was good for the amount paid in the deal we had. More food could be obtained by paying more of course.

Stayed in this budget hotel for a few nights; location is very good - just next to the Forum shopping center and few minutes away from the bus / train station.

The room was ok - bathroom was very small but ok for one person. Also water kettle, microwave oven, and small fridge are there. A big flat screen TV is nice! Complimentary internet was very good.

Many many restaurants close by, also Yrjonkatu Public Swimming Hall worth of trying!!!
