“Deserves to be top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We stayed at the Fabian Hotel for a week in early September and can highly recommend it. It is in a quiet spot which is within walking distance from the railway station – it took us 20 minutes of easy walking- and a short walk up the hill for a great view of the harbour.
The service was excellent. The staff are welcoming, speak very good English, respond quickly to any request and give good advice. The style room was immaculate, with a very comfortable bed, good amenities and plenty of room for storage with a walk- in closet at the end of the hallway.
The breakfast was wonderful with a large selection of fresh food from the buffet, delicious bread and good coffee. We loved the Finnish to English phrases on the table mats! While there is no restaurant attached to the hotel, there are excellent restaurants within 5-10 minutes’ walk. I can recommend Zucchini for lunch and Juuri , Havis and Fabian restaurants for dinner. There is also a supermarket and a Delish Deli close by for take away food.

I have visited a few hotels during the last years but this tops them all. Super nice staff, excellent room that easily accommodated two adults and two kids (one on sofa, another on extra bed, 7 and 8 years). A good lobby bar and excellent, cosy breakfast. Centrally located, will use this to all my overnight trips to Helsinki in the future -- if there are any rooms left, this was so good.

My first visit to the Hotel Fabian and it is a boutique hotel located in a quiet street, still within a short walk to the centre of Helsinki. The room I had was not only very large but very well appointed and to be honest one of the better rooms I have stayed in over the last couple of years. The staff was always on hand and helpful and the Breakfast whilst the Scandic norm was fresh and replenished regularly.

The hotel is really comfortable and the rooms are really comfortable with an excellent size and immaculate clean. From the hotel to the down town there is only a few minute walk to get to the commercial area full of shops and restaurants. Also the docks are two blocks away from the hotel main entrance. There you can find some very good fish restaurants and during the weeks ends there is a small market with home made food, (herrings, jams, bread) fresh vegetables and cooked salmon. Also you can find some hand crafted things as well.
The breakfast buffet is really good with a variety of fresh food and a very attentive staff ready to help you.with a smile.
The only cons if any, was the background noise of the air cond system in the room. We were at room number 501 and the air conditioning noise was very noticeable even when it was turned off, it was a bit annoying specially if you want to sleep after a tiring day walking around Helsinki.

HotelFabian, Manager at Fabian Hotel, responded to this review, October 15, 2013
Dear Pmoreno,

Thank you for your review on your stay at Hotel Fabian. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. However, I do apologise for the noisy air conditioning in your room. Usually our hotel is very quiet and we are proud to say that we can offer a good night's sleep to our guests. I am sorry this was not the case with your room. I would also like to thank you for bringing this to our knowledge as now we can fix the problem. Our maintenance has already been informed and they are fixing the problem as we speak.
Once again, thank you for taking your time to write your feedback. Hopefully you will stay at Hotel Fabian also next time you are in Helsinki.

Best Regards,

Elli Suutarinen

Now here is a clean, well organized hostelry. They must wash the sidewalks too, but maybe that's just the way the whole country operates. Nothing seems to be out of place or of questionable taste in Helsinki. It's a very comfortable city where everything seems to work, and well. The Fabian has modest sized rooms, but everything that you would ever need, and functioning perfectly for a great stay, from the elevator to the compact breakfast area, where operating smoothly and trouble-free is designed and nicely executed. Very helpful and personable desk staff too.
Don't miss a relaxing excursion to the Cafe Regatta, even though it's about a $20US taxi ride from the Fabian area. Just a cute place with a lovely atmosphere. If the weather is nice, you will want to hang around for hours soaking up the coffee, cinnabons, and ambiance of the seaside.
