“Very central hotel : a great room with a great view on the Port”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2010

Hello,
Before making your booking, register on Small Luxury Hotel of the world slh.com so you can be upgraded.
You should book early so you will pay 169 euros the room. Rooms 707 (luxury) and 709 (smaller) have a great view over the Helsinki port.
You do not need a car if you stay in Helsinki for the week-end.
In the hotel, the restaurant Havis (fish) is very fine and closes at 10PM.The wine is very expensive.
Near the hotel, the restaurant Grotesk is open on saturday evening, is fine but you need to book.
The hotel is centrally located on the port near the Esplanade and near the Tourist Office (50 meters).
Buy an Helsinki card at the Tourist office and your city tour by bus is a gift...You can ask the hotel to prebook for you the city tour or book it on the web site Helsinki Expert helsinkiexpert.com or at the Tourist Office.
The cruises Sunlines are waiting you for a 90 minutes cruise. They are situated just in front of the hotel. There was a lot of wind but the boat do not move and you do not have sea sick at all !
We also visited the design museo:very interesting.
We stayed 2 days for the week-end and it was really marvellous. The hotel staff is perfect. The rooms, with fine free Wifi, were clean and beautiful.
Breakfast is not great but good.
Have a pleasant stay.

Very helpful staff, clean and spacious room and bathroom, classy lobby and chic breakfast area but poor breakfast for sure. It was comfortable staying at Haven.

Our stay at the hotel Haven was otherwise quite nice - room was very nice and clean, lobby and bar areas cozy and stylish, service considerate yet a little reserved as so many times in Finland. We were quite satisfied with our stay until we went for the breakfast in the morning. We were quite astonished by the limited selection of things you're used to find even in much less pricey hotels in Scandinavia - and here we are sitting in one, that claims to be "a gourmet’s treat" in their web site and brochures. The worst part of it was, that they actually charge extra for eggs and other warm stuff. They say it's because they want to guarantee they are fresh for each client. That's nice. But in other hotels of this standard they do the same, with no extra cost - breakfast IS normally included in the room price in Finland and other nordic countries unlike in for example U.S.

But the worst happend after we'd been there for a while. Another customer dropped a whole cup of coffee on the floor, but no-one ever came to clean it up! The personnel walked right through the puddle of coffee, but never did anything about it. We had to walk right through it as well when filling our plates, but they did not pay any attention. When we politely asked wheter they were going to, they just said something about having to possibly mop it away.

When I wanted to give feedback, the hotel manager seemed to take my complains seriously (after I first got an e-mail address from the reception that went to whole another company), but when the restaurant manager later called me he did not sound like taking our feedback seriously at all. Which means, the breakfast is pretty sure going to be the same in the future. Make no mistake - all the incredients were of perfect quality. It was just really really modest with for example tiny rolls and croissants, a cup of 1/2 strawberry, two blueberries, two rasberries and 4 red currants, standard yoghurt, very modest selection of cereals etc. A disappointment for us, who do value a nice breakfast.

This was my second stay at the hotel, the first time in October 2009. What a great, boutique hotel. Right off the historic waterfront with great restaurants nearby. A warm cozy place, luxurious rooms and very friendly staff.

My second stay started off on a bad note, as I arrived when the airports closed due to the volcano. If there's a place to get stuck and holed up in a hotel, I can't think of a better hotel to be at. Complimentary wifi was great to skype off of with my iPhone, while I called airlines and travel agents. Bfast was included and was great. The only thing I have to complain about is the poor TV entertainment selection available. After a week there, I was dying for a movie or something from home (mind you, I was just feeling home sick).

We stayed at the Haven for 3 nights in early April as part of a round-the-world holiday. The hotel is centrally located - most local attractions are easy walking distance (e.g. we walked to the famous Temppeliaukion Church), not to mention shops, theatres, and several excellent restaurants (with a special mention for "Juuri"). We also enjoyed a very nice meal at Sundmans Krog, which adjoins the hotel ... if you like herring, the herring buffet is a must.
On arrival we were offered an upgrade to a Lux room for an extra 20 Euros per night, which we accepted. We were given room 601, which had a harbour view of sorts, although it was a "restricted view". I imagine that the rooms on the northern side of the hotel have more expansive harbour views.
The room was very cozy and relatively spacious, and the bathroom was arranged so as to provide a "throne with a view".
There was a decent amount of storage space, a comfortable sofa, and a B&O TV with integrated MP3 input, so we could enjoy our own music.
Breakfast at Havis was fine: it was included in our rate, and since we prefer a small breakfast anyway, we were very happy with the selections available via the buffet. It was not a comprehensive buffet in the style of the top Asian hotels, but that wasn't a problem for us. If you must have more, then the Old Market Hall is a short walk across the road where you can find everything else.
What really sets the hotel apart was the level of service we enjoyed. For example, although one reviewer has noted that breakfast is not available at the restaurant before 7am, when we pointed out that one morning we were taking the early boat to Tallinn, they offered to provide a continental breakfast for us in the lobby at 6:30 without any prompting from us. When we came down from the room that morning, a lovely selection of breakfast items was awaiting us. And on our first attempt at finding Sundmans Krog, which physically adjoins the hotel, but requires a short walk outdoors, one of the reception staff followed us to make sure we found our way.
The only negative about the hotel is its modern facade, which doesn't really fit in well with the 19th-century buildings in the neighbourhood, but that is pretty much the only negative we could come up with.

I stayed here for one week. It's a great bang for your buck, I'd say.
The room isn't huge, but it's very well appointed, comfortable bed and great bathroom. There was an annoying incence but I just closed the lid on the bottle.
Location is great on the harbour, walking distance everywhere, both restaurants in the hotel are top class. Usually I wouldn't dine in a hotel restaurant but here it's not a stupid rip-off but a cozy pleasant experience with great food. Gym is small but fine. At breakfast I didn't miss the big buffet of smoked salmon and herring with bacon fat and sausages all mixed together. There was just everything you needed and it was of fine quality.
I have stayed at Hotel Glo before but prefer Haven better because in my experience it was less 'trendy' and more private.
A colleague had a room in 4th floor and during the Saturday night he had trouble sleeping due to nightclub noise downstairs, but I was fine on 7th floor. I suppose in this hotel it's worth asking for a view (which I didn't have) , it would be very beautiful looking out to the frozen see.
HIghly recommend.
