“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2009

A bit like HOtel du Vin (nice boutique hotel chain in the UK) but cheaper. Fabulous rooms, great position right by the old market place and the shops. Ten minutes walk from the station and free bikes at the hotel. Next month they're adding a spa, which looked as if it would mirror the standard of the rest of the hotel. Definately recommend it. Slept like a baby, and wonderful shower.

Traveling in Helsinki with friends for just two days, one night, we chose to stay at Hotel Haven.

Pros:
Very pretty hotel
Nicely appointed rooms
Comfortable beds
High end electronics with a cool MP3 plug-in to play music through the TV speakers
Super clean (the hotel is only 6 months old)
Nicely appointed bathroom
Friendly staff
Reception desk personnel very helpful and knowledgeable
Very convenient location--can walk just about anywhere from the hotel
Bar on main entry level was very nice, had separate lounge/seating areas to gather within
Nice choice of furnishings
Rooms have air conditioning, and it works great!
Nice size rooms (and mine was a base level room)

I always really enjoy returning to Helsinki to try out the newest boutique hotel that has opened since my last visit... Since the Klaus K hotel first opened its doors it has been followed by Glo Hotel, the Best Western Premier Katajanokka prison hotel and now Hotel Haven.

This was our most recent stay and we had room 513 on the harbour side overlooking the covered courtyard and the sea for 4 nights. I am not sure whether the room was a Comfort or Style room, but was decent sized with an ok-sized bathroom (not huge, but big enough for 1). The bed was very comfortable, the furnishings of a high quality and the Bang & Olufsen TV and the TV in the bathroom were nice touches.

The room furnishings were similar to the Kamp hotel and more old-world than cutting edge, but definitely homely and the room was very quiet and with good temperature controls. The Elemis bath products were also very nice and replenished daily. The bottled water at night time was also a nice touch. The common areas and the courtyard for breakfast were also very comfortable and well designed.

The one area where the hotel was let down was the quality of the food. We ordered room service from the night time menu (post 10pm) and the burger was of microwave quality, the ice cream had thawed and then been re-frozen and the nacho chips were from the local supermarket. For a hotel that forms part of the G.W. Sundmans restaurant group I would have expected the quality of food to be better. Similarly at breakfast the waffle with cream and berries was very "thin" and the omelette was plain and tasteless. I would have expected higher standards of food and presentation so this disappointed us.

All in all though, the staff tries hard, but I would definitely recommend Glo or Klaus K (one of the big rooms e.g. Envy) for fans of more contemporary design and the Kamp Hotel for those who enjoy the "grande dame hotel" look, ahead of Hotel Haven.

If you can get a good rate, definitely do try out Hotel Haven, but next time round I think it will be Glo or Klaus K for us again...

We spent one wonderful night in hotel Haven with my boyfriend. The hotel is very beautifully decorated. We had book a comfort room, but we changed it to the lux room for 40euros, cose we eated our dinner in the room, so needed a bit bigger room. Good place for a get away trip! So we saw two different rooms, which both were very nice! There is some things that we loved in our room/the hotel
- Luxorious bathroom with nice bathtube
- Had a great sleep in the comfort bed
- Friendly and helpful staff
- warm atmosphere
- breakfast was healthy and tasteful, the coffee and fresh apple juice were served to the table
- good location nearby the sea, shopping and best restaurant in Helsinki

Not much complaining: just that the breakfast shoud open in 7.30, but the most of the food were served in 7.45, so I had to wait for a while, but the restaurant was cosy, so it didn´t bother that much.

We stayed one night in Hotel Haven, and liked it very much. The location is perfect, just footsteps from all the attractions. Hotel itself very new, very stylish. They still don't have sauna and spa, which are going to open in August this year. We didn't experience any traffic noise, and honestly speaking, I wonder, where the trafic noise should come from. Yes, the hotel is on the street, but you're in Helsinki, not in New York. There is not so much traffic in general. The only point of criticism was breakfast. Included was buffet breakfast which was some sausage, cheese, bread, cooked eggs and kaffee. Not a big variaty at all. That was the first time for me in Scandinavia, that I haven't seen any fish at all for breakfast. You could order some fisch, or fried eggs, but for extra charge. Anyway, I think breakfast was not good enough for new and stylish five-star hotel.

New design hotel one street from the harbour,a busy street, traffic start about 5 a.m..no double glass or soundproofing. As in other hotels way up north airco heats room instead of cooling.Expensive and unremarkable restaurants, nice people , very friendly. No spa or sauna.
