“The most awful service at all”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

We arrived on Sunday, but the check-in weren't work this day, so we had to email them earlier and we did! But nobody cares to provide us with any information how to get the keys. After some hours calling the service number, administration said we had to wait until 12:30 to get our keys. At 12:30 there was nobody with keys, after another calling they said it's their bad and the woman will coom soon. This "soon" took 2 more hours, in about 14:30 there came 2 women and they didn't speak English, nor Russian. She said in broken english that somebody already live in our apartments and we have to move in other hotel and then they just went away. We cancelled our booking, which were pre-paid and forced to leave the country, because we hadn't enough money to pay another room. If you want to stay in Helsinki, never choose this hotel for stay! I'm not an another hotel workers or smth like that, it's the true story we had in June,8 2014. Vitaliy M., Russia. (+79811856975 feel free to call, I can pay my words.)

Room Tip: Don't stay in here!!!

Traveller’s Home provides basic, self-catering accommodation. The location for our first stay of 3 nights was excellent, a short walk to the centre of town and many tourist attractions. The kitchen, bathroom and living areas were basic but adequate and clean, the bed was a bit hard and not really big enough for 2 people. It’s okay value for the price based on Finnish costs.

Traveller’s Home for our second stay of 1 night was disappointing simply because the room was a kilometre walk from the check-in office. We had difficulty opening the door to the apartment so had to walk back to the office for extra instructions. Other than this problem, the accommodation was basic and good for self-catering. The second room was close to the central railway station which suited us but a bit further from the city CBD.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the check-in office.

I just had a great experience at this place. We were also arriving late - 11 pm - so I emailed them to let them know - they emailed back to say they would be waiting, and they were.
They directed us a few metres down the road, to a funky little studio apartment - self-contained with full kitchen (including coffee, tea, etc.). We spent two nights there - and we had a great time. The apartment was a 10 meters from a supermarket, so we saved on eating (expensive in Helsinki) by buying and cooking our own stuff, but it was also right in the heart of dozens of restaurants and bars - including one we tried where no-one could believe a tourist would find, it was supposed to be 'for locals' only. (so they were very friendly!). Free unlimited wifi.
20 minutes walk to the train station one way, and the port the other way, although buses and trams and plentiful (although at 2.50EU per ride, not super cheap). We enjoyed Helskinki, and I loved coming back to this little 'home' in the middle of it all both nights. I thought it was excellent value for money, and made a nice change from just another boring, faceless hotel room. I felt we got a taste of what it's like to really live in Helskinki by staying here.

We have reserved a room in this hostel, but the situation turned out be a very unpleasant one. Despite that I have warned them twice that we would be arriving late, no one met us in the hotel, and the phone number indicated on their website and also in their office's window was turned off! We have waited for more than hour (there was October outside), but still no one came, so we had to look for another place to stay in the middle of the night. This was a really annoying experience! But nevertheless they haven’t forgotten to charge my credit card for the room we haven’t used…. So, if you need to find a place to stay in Helsinki, and you are not extreme feelings’ fan, we would advise to look for some other place.
