“Hotel and cultural center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here as part of a business trip. It's a nice enough hotel and the staff has good language skills. It is however a bit secluded, situated on an island in Espo (and yes, a bit away from Helsinki city).

The place is perfect if you have time to enjoy the beauty of Northern European city planning, with so much greenery inside the city-area. If you take an interest in Swedish-Finnish history, the hotel also serves as a cultural center. It has nice, if small, exhibitions on the links between the two nations, which were one nation up until 1809.

The hotel furthermore has an ok breakfast buffet, served in a spacious room with a forrest-and-lake view. All in all a good stay if you don't mind the transports that you need to get around.

I was invited to Hanasaari on the 23d of May and what an evening that was. The restaurant Johannes really can surprise people with good stuff from all over the world. I have been here before, both as a hotel and restaurant guest and participant in various seminars. The location is beautiful, close to the sea, the staff is very nice and professional and everything works. Just 10 minutes with bus from Helsinki center. And the buses leave almost every minute - at least until the West Metro opens in 2014...

Nice hotel just located near by the sea, a little bit old but still in quite good condition. The breakfast was OK. The swimming pool was a surprise. Sauna open in the evening and in the morning as well. Helpful personal.

Room Tip: The basic room is OK.

Great location on a secluded island between Helsinki and Espoo. Helsinki is easily accessed by bus, with the bus stop a short walk away.
The building is a wonderful example of Finnish/Scandinavian modern design, with period furniture and interesting art on display. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the pool and sauna were very nice.
I ate dinner and lunch at the restaurant which had a good selection of food and friendly staff.
Overall great value for money, and a wonderful atmosphere of being out in the countryside, with all the amenities of the city only a few minutes away.

I just attended a meeting in this hotel and the service was great.
Rooms were tidy, nice and confortable with a view.
Meeting rooms were very practicle and the service was very flexible and client-friendly.
The hotel has a leisure facility with a 15m pool, 2 sauna (Men/Women separated) and a fire place with outdoor access to the sea.

The hotel is easy to access from the city center (many bus) or the airport.

I really recommand it for business or vacation.

We really likes staying at this hotel, because it's not only a hotel, it's a cultural center of modern art of both Finland and Sweden. The place is full of object of modern art (paintings, sculptures etc.) and the building itself is an example of modern arquitecture.
What I especially like about the interior of the hotel is that everything is made either of local stone or wood. It looks realy authentic and impressive.
We enjoyed staying at a hotel that occupies the whole peninsula of Hanasaari.
Apart from anything else there is this marvellous silence from time to time only interrupted by the singing bird! You never will get such an experience in the center of a city.
You can rent (free of charge) bikes from the hotel and go anywhere you like because, as Finland is known as the
cyclist's paradise, there are bikeways everywhere and they often go along the lakes or through the forest, so riding a bike there is a real pleasure.
And it's very handy that bus stop is just 3 minutes walk from the hotel. Maximum 10 minutes and here you are at the center of Helsinki! No need to drive a car and look desperately for a parking place;)
We travelled with a 3yo, and though there are now children's facilities at this hotel, our daughter never got bored. We strolled around the hotel, threw stones at the lake, rode bikes etc. There is a sauna and a swimming pool at the hotel, so we spent some time there.
I didn't really like the restaurant, because the list of offered dishes is so short( But anyway we liked what we ate (it was a parsnip soup, beefstake and some potatoes salad).
And the breakfast was just ok, nothing special, but everything fresh and tasty.

The location and the hotel itself is really nice, but the restaurant... the unfriendly personnel aside, the bacon in my BLT Club Sandwich was RAW! Couldn't chew through it. How hard can it be to fry bacon? The side salad looked like it was from yesterday. At least the chips were crispy. I've never been angrier after a meal. If you're looking for a place to stay the night (and if you don't mind the sounds of explosion from the Länsimetro construction site), I can recommend Hanasaari, but please do not eat there.

Hanasaari, Manager at Hotel Hanasaari, responded to this review, January 18, 2013
Dear Alex,
we are sorry to hear of your poor experience and our poor performance with the food during your stay.
We really do apologize this. We have taken your comment to be one of the tools when improving our quality and service. And there has been a lot of improvement, I can assure.
The metro constructions work in to the west of Helsinki center are moving further to the west from here and the soudns from that is minimizing day by day.
I wish that you would have the opportunity and will of visiting us again some day.
Best regards from sunny and beautiful wintry Hanasaari.
