Firstly we chose to fly from Birmingham - 2 Adults and 1 child.
We had booked 3 nights 4 days full board - fly 24th Dec rtn 27th Dec, this was booked with Thompsons the main rep there.

OK the flight was awsome not to long a flight approx 3 hrs ish if i remember right.
The air hostesses were fantastic in there santa hats and bubbly spirits.
Kids on the flight would have a sing song and play packs, so plenty to keep them busy throughout the flight.

Weather was about -20 when we landed, but not the normal damp/wet cold but a dry sharp cold.
There was lots of snow down and I knew straight away that this was going to be a great break (white xmas).

We was greeted by the Elves at the airport (Local thompson reps) and guided us to our coach, they were amazing and great fun - our elve for the break was snowflake sally - she was brill.
Big Hi to little donkey Lola if you read this - Thompson rep - always around the hotel if needed, Lola was great.

First thing we done was drive to a location to pickup the issued clothing, we decided to take our own warm gear and this worked well, the issued clothing that was issued looked good and i heard no complaints.

Hotel is not to far from the airport about 25 mins, but the clothing issued put an hour on this first run to the hotel.
The good thing was that everyone on the coach is from the same hotel, so that was a brucie bonus.
Remember to get a sledge from reception - 10 euro deposit, great for kids outside the hotel.

The Hotel itself was nice, the only fault i can really find was the rooms was a bit out of date, but this did not affect our break one bit - the room did have a sauna but to be honest we didnt use it so i cant comment on that.
Inside the hotel itself was cosy with the log fires going - free internet - cosy little bar area.
I am sure there will be some negative feedback, and thats what feedback is for.
My honest opinion - Brilliant !!!

The hotel was busy but not an uncomfortable busy, kids have a play area and a cinema and organised activities i.e decorating the xmas tree - santa visit.

We never seen much of the hotel through the day as we was out on our activities (tasters).
Reindeer rides-husky sleigh-skidoo- i personally felt that the tasters was enough to get the feeling of doing something you never get the chance to do and a magical moment - but thats your call and you can book additional rides etc when your there.

We did have one afternoon off where we decided to grab a couple of hours skiing- (Next to Hotel)
I can ski but my wife and daughter cannot, so my daughter 7yrs had a one on one ski lesson - this was not overly expensive approx 50 gbp for an hour.
While you are there you sometimes think thats expensive but lets face it, it is a once in a lifetime experience and to see our daughters beaming smile, made it all worth while.
It was last chance saloon for us to take her before she is a non believer.

The hotel resturant was amazing with floor to celing windows over looking the snowy surroundings - a word of advice, if there is no table at the window available, just let the waitress know you will wait - there is a little bar area to have a melow moment while you wait, if you get chance try the in house gloggi - with or without spirits, it`s like a mulled wine but really is so nice to settle down with for the night.
Food was Fantastic - great selection in breakfast (awsome).

Excursions to
Santa village and santa park - loads to do, found the santa parc to be the better of the two, both was included with the package.

A coach also picked us up to take us for a xmas meal, this was truly spectacular as santa turns up on reindeers as the fireworks go off, magical moment.

There is just so many good things to remember and verly little bad things.

I originally thought this package was expensive but having seen what is actually involved and behind the scenes, its actually well worth the money - it`s a once in a lifetime for me and im proud to say I have been lucky enough to take my wife and daughter,

If your looking for a magical xmas then this is by far the best xmas experience ever.
My wife and daughter have some great lifetime memories.

Lifes to short, enjoy it!!

Room Tip: Stay at the ramada hotel night before on the airport - 50 gbp includes parking until you get back...

We stayed here at the beginning of December for 4 nights - full board with Thomson.

You can stay in the wood cabins at this location aswell as in the main hotel. We stayed in the hotel so can only review that but we did hear some positive comments about the cabins.
The first thing I would say about this hotel is make sure you get a renovated room and if they won't give you one for free it's well worth paying 12 Euros a night to upgrade. The staff were friendly at the front desk and spoke English very well (although we did try to say thank you and hello in Finnish to them whenever possible) so first impressions were good . The hotel does look slightly dated with the decor, apart from the restaurant, but it is quite clean.

We were given a twin room on the ground floor which seemed ok when we first walked in. There were a couple of steps that went up to where the beds were which had motion sensitive lights in them which we thought were quite funky but then we looked at the bathroom which was a huge disappointment. I will do my best to upload some photos at a later date if the site allows it as I can't get across the point I'm trying to make in words alone! The bathroom was very grubby, old looking white tiles with hardly any room and it really, really put me off. I felt quite disappointed actually. The shower was tiny and the shower head looked like it had nothing left to give. The bedroom window looked out on to the car park and there weren't any net curtains so the curtains would have had to remain permanently closed. We spoke to our Thomson rep who asked the hotel if we could upgrade, they wouldn't do it for free but they offered to show us what we could upgrade to and said we could pay 12 Euros a night extra. We accepted the second room immediately! Although the front room was pretty much the same as the first, maybe a bit bigger and without the steps, the bathroom looked like it could be in a show home! It had definitely been renovated, everything looked brand new and it had it's own sauna (which was lovely after being out in the cold all day!). It was much cleaner and faced out on to trees so it was a lot more private. I will mention here though that we did speak to another family who had a family room on the ground floor and they were very impressed with their room, they said it was huge so maybe we were just unlucky!

It might be worth pointing out that we were told there is only one room in the whole hotel that has a double bed in it, all the others are singles or twins / family etc but if you're going as a couple and want a double bed the likelihood is you wont get one! They can push the beds together and give you a double mattress topper but we asked for this and it was never done, although that didnt bother us too much. The pillows were a bit lumpy but comfy on the whole and we were surprised at how warm we were considering it was -25 degrees outside. The blankets on the bed don't look like they're going to be warm but they are! The only things missing from the room really were an iron and ironing board but that didnt matter too much to us.

The food at the hotel is as good as everyone says it is! The restaurant itself is quite nice with lovely views although we found it a bit chilly next to the windows! Their soup is divine, I know most people might say soup is soup but it's incredibly tasty and I can safely say their leek and potato was the best I've ever had! I don't eat pork and unfortunately most of the meals in the buffet included the meat but I was advised by our rep that if you don't eat what they have provided they will make you something else. There are pastas and salads available but on one day I did find that what they called a "salad" seemed to me to be coleslaw with peas in! It was tasty though! We were full board and each meal was very enjoyable, there is a large selection of different foods for breakfast and their bread is amazing! I ended up eating bread with every meal! I can see why it's called one of the best restaurants in the whole of Finland but do be aware that alcohol is very expensive (as we found most places in Finland!)! We paid 8 Euros 20 for a small glass of wine and just over 7 Euros for 500ml beer (just under a pint). There is an a la carte menu available which we didnt try as we were happy with the buffet. You have to book for this and the tables right next to the window are reserved for this. From what I saw the food did look very good but you can expect to pay quite a lot for a three course meal!

The hotel is at the top of a ski slope and whilst we have seen on here that people have said you can hire sledges from reception, reception knew nothing about it! The rep said you can go down to the ski centre at the bottom of the slope but you have to pay for the ski lift if you dont want to walk all the way back up! The ice maze that has also been mentioned previously in reviews was a one off for a couple of years ago so it's not there anymore (which we were quite disappointed about)! The roof terrace has beautiful views over Rovaniemi and would be perfect for looking for the Northern Lights on a clear night. There was quite a bit of snow when we went though so unless you're willing to sit on snow and ice covered seats it might be worth taking something to sit on!

The hotel is a fair distance from the city centre if you want to walk it. A couple we spoke to from the next hotel down said they walked for 25 minutes so do expect at least 40 minutes from this one, it's downhill all the way there so do expect a long uphill struggle if you walk back! A taxi costs around 12-15 Euros each way.

Overall I think we would return to this hotel, the food was definitely something to write home about and it was clean with friendly, helpful staff. The only slight downside is the distance from the city centre but if you have other things to do this shouldn't be a problem.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room with a sauna if possible!

Travelled here as part of the Thomson Xmas package. Travelled Dec 24th>27th as a couple with no children.

Stayed in the hotel in a superior room, in my opinion a better choice then the cabins as they are a long way from the main hotel. Room large but basic with Sauna and wet room. Overlooked the forest so had great views of the winter wonderland. Room has flat screen TV, kettle, lots of storage space but no safe. (there are deposit boxes in reception). The room is clean, but could do with a face lift as it looks a little worn out.

The restaurant have the most fantastic views of the forest, our package included full board, but this was only for the buffet. (food was of a good standard for a buffet)

There is not a lot to do in the evening, just a small bar in the main reception. Drinks are €15 for two glasses of house red wine.

Outside the hotel is the perfect winter wonder land. Located on top of hill in the forest next to the ski slopes. It looks great. There is a viewing area for the northern lights, but we did not see them.

overall a nice place to stay, but is a couple of miles away from the city so transport could be an issue if you do not have a car or transport included in your holiday package. (if you go with thomson there are no problems as they lay on all transport)

I will review the Thomson part of the holiday in the forums, but as a quick note their package is fantastic. On the face of it it looks expensive, but when you consider the transportation, food, trips, entrance to santa theme park that are included it starts to be very good value for money.

Room Tip: The hotel superior rooms over look the forest and are in the same building as reception, bar and res...

We stayed in a cabin at this hotel, and can highly recommend it.
It was booked through a Thomson Lapland Holiday package - will review Thomson separately.
The cabins are in a beautiful woodland setting, but not more than 500m from the main building, where we took our meals. They are all attractive, and ours was very nicely appointed. It was 'B3', downstairs there was an anteroom with storage and drying cupboard, bathroom (shower, no bath) with sauna and laundry, and a combined kitchen/living/dining room. It had everything you would need to self cater, but we didn't bother. There is a master bedroom downstairs.
Upstairs there is a loft area with chairs and 2 single beds, and another twin bedroom. There is a bathroom with just a WC and basin upstairs.
There was underfloor heating and individual heaters, and always comfortable.
The hotel itself had a bar and sitting area with a fire.
The restaurant has spectacular views over the surrounding area (it is at the top of a big hill/small mountain - there is a small ski resort immediately adjacent). The restaurant is apparently very good, however we had the Thomson 'package' deal, not the a la carte, and it was basic and adequate. The bar staff sold us cartons of milk so we could make tea and coffee in our cabin. It is quite a long way to any shops (not walking distance at all) so unless you have transport it would be hard to self cater; we didn't care.
We borrowed sledges (10euro deposit only) and the children had an absolute ball
The reception staff could be a bit frosty at times.

Room Tip: All the cabins looked great.

This trip was a present from our parents and my god what a trip. A Jam packed 5 days.

We landed on the 5th December and the temperature was -17. Definitely was a shock to the system. The airport is very small so unfortunately we did have a little wait for our luggage to come off the plane. Once all the luggage was collected, the transfer onto the coach (Snowflake) was extremely smooth. We were only waiting 5 minutes on the coach before it moved.

All of the reps and helpers are understandably got nicknames with a Christmas theme and they get you into the mood of the holiday by getting you to sing Christmas carols etc.

Within the Thomason Holiday package, we had all of our snow outer clothing included. So before we got to the hotel we were taken to a warehouse where the reps did their welcome speech and then we were given our clothing. We had to try nothing on, the staff their just looked at you and collected what was required (I tried mine on later that day and it fitted perfectly).

Once we got to the hotel again, extremely prompt in that we were given our room key within 5 minutes of arriving and advised straight away that the restaurant was open. Initially we were given a room on the ground floor but asked to be moved as it smelt very heavily of damp. They moved us straight away into a 2 bedroom (originally had a family room as we have a daughter) but while we were transferring our luggage they had moved a campbed into it and were making it up.

On exploring the room we had the standard tea and coffee making facilities and as a bonus we had our own personal Sauna.

As you can imagine we started exploring the area for the rest of the day.

The restaurant has amazing views of the Rovaniemi below and at the side there is a ski slope (we were up quite high). They also had a roof terrace which as you can imagine with the views was even better.

Over the next couple of days, between the trips that we had booked, were spent alot of time at the hotel and then started to discover a couple of flaws. The tea and coffee facilities were never replenished. Luckily due to a previous european holiday, we took tea and coffee with us so we were able to provide goodies to the rest of our family. Also, in the evening, once you have had your meal, there is nothing to do. The bar area is run by the receptionists so as you can imagine, when new guests are arriving, everything is put on the back burner. My child especially found it boring as the playroom that they have is aimed at toddlers not school age children.

The biggest thing going for the hotel however is the restaurant. We had booked on a full board basis but one night we decided to try the a la carte menu.

The full board food is brilliant but the a la carte food is amazing, expensive, but amazing. The restaurant staff tell you exactly how your food is cooked and will even go to recommending the exact wine that you should have with it. The restaurant definitely brings up the standard of the hotel.

However, despite the couple of flaws, we had a great time. We would definitely go again to Rovaniemi, just maybe to a different hotel

I stayed here with my girlfriend and my twin girls from 1-3 rd december 2012.
We booked our flights separate and hotel and transfers which saved us at least £700 off the package deals! Finnair from manchester to Helsinki then a connection to rovaniemi. The hotel was very clean and the food was excellent! We stayed on and b and b offer which meant we paid for our evening meal which was a rip off! But its either pay there prices or pay a €50 return taxi fare to rovaniemi town centre!
You can walk it of course but if you have young children even with the warm clothes the cold bites within 5 minutes @minus 20.

Had a great day at the santa village and santa park were you are supposed to pay an entrance fee but we never got asked saving us €106 for a family of 4!

Overall 2 nights was enough great as a 1 off trip but make sure u pack some euros as a week in this place will require a re-mortgage of your home!

I didnt stay in this hotel but i had a meal here. The dinner was great! The food was very good. And the view was fantastic.

I agree that without transport it would be hard to get here. But a trip here is pretty worth the while. I have attached some photos of the dinner and the views i had seen in this hotel :)
