“Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here overnight in peak season in January. Was the last hotel with a free room in town so had to pay through the nose.. was initially told via email we were going to be given the room above the nightclub and to expect it to be noisy but upon chrckin we were shifted to another area. Wife and I are night owls so in the end the nightclub might have been better than listening to all the kids running around upstairs early the next morning. Ceiling has poor noise insulation. Hotel location is good but then most hotels in town are all pretty close together. Public bus to Santa village passes right outside the hotel. Staff in bar/restaurant had to struggle to seem interested in customers. Reception staff friendly though

Stayed here for 5 nights from the 19th December. Overall we had a very pleasant stay. Staff friendly & polite! Rooms were clean, tidy and of a decent size. Bed was not a double but we just pushed them together. Fridge (some minibar items reasonably priced), TV, Hairdryer & Iron in the room. Rooms were kept very warm, we even had the fan on one night, very weird feeling knowing it was -24 outside at the time! Bathrooms not the biggest but enough space for what they're needed for! Toiletries and Heated towel rail provided. Free wifi all around the hotel and even outside.
We stayed B&B breakfast was fine, scrambled egg, bacon and continental. Bar prices started out reasonable but seemed to change sometimes. Something we didn't bother questioning so cannot complain. Staff generally very pleasant albeit some of them very slow meaning you could end up waiting in a queue. We didn't let this bother us either, we just went with the flow.
Hotel is none smoking but they do have a smoking room in the bar so not to have to go outside for a cigarette.
There are a few saunas of which we did not use so cannot comment, nor did we use the nightclub, we were way to tired after our busy days!
The Sokos is situated right next to the centre of Rovaniemi within walking distance to many bars, restaurants, sights and safari companies.
Would we recommend and return to the Sokos? yes we would!
Thank you Sokos Vaakuna Rovaniemi for helping our stay to be an enjoyable one! Very sad to be back home!

We took our 3 granddaughters here and can not emphasis how lovely this hotel is you are minutes from town centre....We had 2 rooms due to no family rooms here and no interconnecting rooms... It was a bit difficult 1st night when thomson rep asked me to go and pick tickets up in lobby, had to get hubby to stand between the 2 doors to keep an eye on kiddiewinks.... Has for the thomson holiday DO NOT BOOK THE EXCURSIONS DIABOLICAL PRICES and NEVER worth the money... Couple in hotel with us had booked theirs in town for half the price and had a great deal with free child places.... cost us nearly £1,000 for 2 excursions YES thats right 2 excursions...I asked about the well known santa trip that is rated top on here joukal i think that's right but was told it would cost around £2,000 but when in conversation with someone was told this was not true.... I only wish somebody had put on here that you could book excursions cheaper in town.... As for the santa park trip YES it was lovely ...But for the time you got there it was just not on for the children to do everything ( approx 2hours thats all)... Same with Santa claus village another (approx 2hours) But you are not the only coach being dropped off at these 2 places there were another 4-6 coaches the same time.... i only wished i had booked with another company that is less package holiday... it ruined my hol because my granddaughters couldn't do everything in these parks (you could achieve all in 4 hours).... The annoying part is these 2 places are less than 5 mins away and if we had known would have had a taxi or bus to go and spend the day there, rather than do the EXTORTIONATE EXCURSIONS... I will be writing to thomson to put my view across about these issues....

We love this hotel. Located by the river (frozen this time of the year), walking distance to the main street of the town. Free wifi all over hotel works superb all the time (in fact sent this on hotel's wifi). The staff are v friendly and eager to help. Rooms are small compared to asian standard but expected for rovaniemi. There is coffee maker and a fridge (surprise surprise)...in short all our needs are catered and cant ask for more...

We didn't pay a particularly large amount for the hotel and it was only rated as a 3* plus by the company with which I booked so I wasn't expecting such a nice hotel! The staff were lovely, as were most of the Finnish people we met during our stay, and helped us in any way they could. One of the female receptionists booked a restaurant for us when we called down to ask for the phone number of said restaurant and another offered us a few adaptors for the plug sockets as we had come without when we asked where the nearest place for us to buy them was!

The rooms were of a good size and nicely decorated and, surprisingly, incredibly warm! We even had the fan on two nights as the room was a nice temperature and we were bundled up in layers as we'd expected to be chilly. It had all the standard amenities: hairdryer, iron, minibar etc. The minibar was expensive as expected and the same items can be found in the corner shop down the road for half the price so it is not advised unless in an emergency. The beds were incredibly soft and comfortable as were the pillows and we both had a great few nights sleep. The maids came everyday and tidied our rooms and replaced towels if we left them for them to do so. Internet was also free, wifi codes available for each room, which was great for us, and it was also free in the hotel's restaurants.

We were B&B so ate in the Fransmanni restaurant for our breakfasts. This was very varied, if slightly "European" but the foods did change slightly each day and we always found something to eat. We also ate in the hotel's other restaurant called "Amarillo" which served Mexican food and were pleasantly surprised by both the friendly waitresses and the good food and delicious cocktails. I would definintely recommend eating here over the Fransmanni for dinner!

The hotel also offers a sauna but we did not get a chance to use this as we were so busy with our lovely Thomson itinerary. I would recommend on this note to buy any gifts from the santa village as opposed to the sant park if you are doing this as they are quite a bit cheaper.

All in all this hotel was a lovely surprise in a good location and with helpful staff, and we greatly enjoyed our stay and would come back.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same; there are only a few suites and they were being rennovated while we were the...

me and my mum (23&45) stayed here between 05/12/12-09/1212 for 4 nights with thomson. The brochure does not do it justice! it was in a great location, on top of the shops, restaurants and activities.
The hotel staff are very friendly, cheery every morning and help you with any questions asked. The rooms are very nice, clean and warm. The beds are so comfy and the showers clean and mordern with hot water every day.It would have been nice to know about the towels and hairdryer thats included as it would have saved us some suitcase space!
overall we had a very pleasent stay and would stay here again.

Just stayed there for a Saturday night to take some friends from Spain to see the Finnish winter wonderland, the arctic circle and hopefully some northern lights as well. I had stayed at this hotel previously sometime in the mid 90's.

It is typical Finnish hotel. The rooms are somewhat on the smaller side and suit better for the Scandinavian taste of being uncomplicated.

The price I paid during the high season was 140 euros for a twin room for two person. I think that this was on the high side for the quality of accommodations offered. There are no international luxury hotels in Rovaniemi, however.

We had a lovely dinner at the Fransmanni restaurant at the hotel and the salmon soup and sauteed reindeer was exactly what I wanted. One of our group members had the S-Etukortti and we had couple of bottles of Peper Heidsieck champagne and bottle of red wine as well. The price was rather reasonable after the discount.

The sauna that they have on the ground floor is on the smaller side.

For the internet connection, you need to request a code from the front desk and you need to keep logging back in every time your connection is idle for a while.

Overall, not a bad stay, but the price was definitely higher that I would have preferred paying.

Thank You for Your rewiew.
Nice to hear that You enjoyed Your stay with us and specially that Your dinner at Fransmanni was a success. We are very proud of the Lappish menu in restaurant Fransmanni and I would say that in my opionion the sauteed reindeer of Fransmanni is one the best in town.

The room rates tend to raise in Rovaniemi during December due to a high demand, but we try to keep our rates reasonable. We have recently changed our wireless internet connection system so that clients can connect to the internet without any codes. So the connection is very easy to use and it is free of charge for our clients.

Happy New Year 2013!
