“Amazing Husky Safari and Great Hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I celebrated the New Year's at Guesthouse Husky. I was very impressed with the hospitality provided by Mrs Outi, she was friendly and welcoming without being overbearing. Informed her that my friend and I would be arriving after dinner and when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised when she informed us that she had prepared reindeer soup for us and left it upstairs in the guest kitchen. Mrs Outi provides special little touches which makes one feel very all warm and cosy inside. For instance, at dinner, she would take the time to explain every single dish (ie. "whitebait caught by my husband which I cured in dill etc). Also, during New Year's Eve, Mrs Outi left a few bottles of complimentary Prosecco in the fridge for her guests. Can't beat hospitality like that.

The rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. We were given the top floor attic room and there was a huge balcony outside the room. Perfect for quiet winter nights to enjoy a drink or two.

I also booked a Husky Safari trip with Guesthouse Husky and it was definitely THE highlight of my trip to Finland. Outdoor gear was provided and we were off! It was amazing whizzing around the Finnish countryside with the huskies. Took a tea break halfway through in a huge teepee tent which just made the experience all the more special. I would highly recommend this activity to everyone!

I did not stay at this property but went on an overnight husky safari with Guesthouse Husky. I stayed in Inari so took an early bus to Ivalo where I was collected and taken out to the husky farm. They have about 150 huskies on their farm. I was fitted out with warm overgear boots and sheepskin mittens to put over my ski gloves. I had to supply ski pants and jacket. I and 6 others were given 5 minutes of instruction ( little brake, big brake!) then off we went, me a 10-12 foot sled on skis and 5 huskies ! It was a little scary at first as the dogs only had one speed and that was flat out! I fell off twice the first day but managed to stay on the second day. We travelled about 50 k's a day through forest ( nearly collided with saplings a few times) and over frozen lake Inari . Scenery was fantastic, seeing the sun peaking through the horizon whilst sledding over the lake was breathtaking ,the trip was great a real adventure. We stayed at a log cabin in sleeping bags, outside toilet and sauna. After dinner and collecting water from the frozen lake ( yes our guide had to drill a hole in the ice then we had to bucket water to the cabin) I would have loved a wine! Tip ...take your own wine in a non breakable container , a bottle would not survive the trip.

Located between Ivalo and Inari Village, it's an excellent guesthouse with superb facilities and room with pleasant atmosphere. The meals served are good ... the reindeer soup and deserts are most appreciated. Owner of the house, Ms. Outi, is nice, helpful and always with sunshine smiles. For the 4 nights we stay there in March 2013, we can always find aurora appearing at night time, and easily to see in their balconies. The husky farm next door provides good equipment for outdoor safaris. The doggies are cute and lovely. In sum, it is value for money for short to medium stay.

Room Tip: Beware not to bring too bulky luggage as their rooms are on upstairs ^_^ but this makes our rooms qu...

We had such a great few days at Guesthouse Husky, really a trip of a lifetime. 3 nights wasn't enough and we'll definitely be back!
Accommodation was lovely and comfortable, clean and new. Outi and Lea were very nice as everyone says :-) and the dinners were delicious!

We went on a day long Husky Safari with the owner Juha-Pekka. Not sure what the person below is talking about. Just because he is quiet and not very talkative (his English is limited), doesn't mean he is grumpy. If you take the time to talk to him and ask him questions he tries his best to answer. He seems to love all his dogs and knows the names of all 150+ of them!
All the dogs seemed happy and excited 24/7!
Anyway we thoroughly enjoyed the husky safari and would love to do an overnight one next time!!

Saariselka is a short drive away, where there are lots of activities to choose from. We went skiing and night time Snowmobiling into the wilderness where we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights!!
We would like to come back next year and explore more of the area!!

Much much recommended to everyone!!!

We met the host of the Guesthouse Husky during our husky-trip. We spend the night in one of the lodges that is part of the entire Guesthouse Husky accommodation. The owner was not at all friendly. He did act as a grumpy farmer who is tolerating 'the strangers' on his land. Instead of being at service of his clients, he was demonstrating his own privileges on his property. Furthermore, he liked to demonstrate his brutal behaviour against the dogs in front of everyone.
His wife, who takes care of the main Guesthouse Husky in Ivalo, is most charming and friendly.

We visited for my 40th birthday and it really was the trip of a lifetime! The location of the guesthouse is breathtaking - set in the forest within easy reach of Ivalo and the nearby airport. It's easy to get to places of interest but no worries about light polution spoiling your chances of seeing the Northern Lights!
We received a wonderful welcome and the guesthouse was far nicer than I had even imagined. It looks deceptively simple but everything about this place is quality - including small details like the sauna mats to the crockery in the kitchenette provided for guests. We had a family room and it was absolutely huge, with super comfy beds and lovely bedding (and special bedding and towels on a Lapland animal theme for our daughter), loads of storage space and excellent shower room, free wi-fi, etc.
We ate every evening meal at the guesthouse and each night was an authentic and delicious Lappish treat. Outi is an exceptional cook and made the most of local ingredients to serve three different courses each night.
We were impressed with all the guesthouse's facilities - sauna, kitchenette and eatting area, computer for guest use, balconies on each floor, dining area with real fire and a really splendid little 'shop' discreetly housed in a cabinet by reception. Don't overlook it as they've sourced some lovely items by local craftspeople that are far nicer and better priced than in the gift shops in Ivalo.
Outi and team are very helpful and helped us to plan our visit, arranging activities but never trying to push us into extras that you find in other places. They booked a reindeer safari for us, provided bus timetables, helped us look up what birds we'd seen and even provided a note to give to the bus driver to tell him what stop to drop us of at. Really thoughtful service that really made us smile. You can also hire skis and equipment and of course book for their husky safaris.
The husky safari was one of the best things we've ever done! So exhilarating, racing your own team of huskies through forest and over frozen river with a coffee break in a teepee!
And to top off the whole experience Outi provided a surprise treat for my birthday - I was so touched - and then we got to see the Northern Lights! It's not guarenteed but we were lucky to see them 2 nights out of 3.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very comfortable with excellent beds

We spent time here in February and I can not praise this place enough. It's set in beautiful scenery; has amazing facilities; the rooms are comfy and have everything you need; the bathroom (especially the shower) was fantastic; the breakfast and evening meals were brilliant; and the organised trips were great fun. Outi and her family made us all really welcome and the other staff we came across were great too. Just to top it off, we saw Aurora on two nights from just outside our accomodation!
This accomodation would be highly recommended for all types of traveller. A definite place to visit.
Thank you to everyone there for such a memorable experience.
