“Good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

I stayed in this hotel for a week while on business in Gothenburg. I generally prefer to stay in the Radisson, but this was booked by a colleague. Location of the hotel is great, part of the train station and a 2 min walk to the large Ahlens department store, or 10 mins to the heart of the city where there are lots of bars and restaurants.
The rooms are typical of slightly older Swedish hotels, a little dated, but clean and with all the necessities. Bathrooms are small, but clean.
The strangest thing about my room was that the window didn’t look to the outside, but to a gallery of some sort! This wasn’t an issue as I was only in my room between about 8pm and 8am when it was closed, but privacy could be an issue in these rooms if you’re in the room during the day.
The First Hotel definitely offers better rates than others in Gothenburg such as the Radisson.

It was a cool hotel. It was in center of all restaurants and it is situated at train central station. The rooms are cozy and if you happen to get bored across the street is a mall and just beside the mall there is this small candy store where you could find anything abourt chocolates and candies. The candy store's name is "4 GOTT". I really enjoyed buying so much candies and I'm kids would enjoy visiting this.

When having business in Gothenburg combined with some leisure, this hotel is perfectly placed. Simple but OK rooms, OK breakfast. Nice combination of Congress-facilities, restaurant and reception-areas. As mentioned the most outstanding with this hotel is the central adress. Close to bus-trams- other hotels - restaurants and not at least businessareas.

Stayed in The First G for 3 nights. It's comfortable and the front desk staff very pleasant and accommodating. The rooms I occupied felt a little stuffy with no natural light or air. The beds are comfortable but pillows seem a little thin. Breakfast is busy - this being a popular city centre hotel and it can get quite a challenge to hold on to your table while visiting the buffet - very few staff at breakfast, no one took my room details so presumably anyone from the station can pop up for a free breakfast !

Generally nice enough for a city centre business hotel.

We stayed here one night arriving via a rental car and leaving via train. All that we read said that the hotel was located next to central station. Not so. It is built directly above the station and there are walkways between the reception area and one of the accommodation towers that allow you to look straight down into the main hall of the station - interesting. Notwithstanding the location we did not hear any noise or feel any vibration.

Unfortunately the exterior signage for the hotel is poor (blends into the surrounds) so the hotel entrance was difficult to locate from the roadway. Also we did not find any signs to the hotel inside the train station. The hotel entrance is actually on the exterior side of the train station building facing a bus terminal. It is just a doorway and you catch an escalator to the first floor (there was also a lift) where reception is located. Unfortunately you are exposed to the weather, albeit only about 10 metres, when leaving the train station complex to get to the hotel entrance.

Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Check-in fast and efficient as was check-out. Room was on Level 4. There were three large elevators going from reception to the various levels. All of the hotel is smoke-free. Our room was very large, light and clean with a view overlooking the bus terminal. I did note however that some rooms faced into an internal garden/courtyard. Beds comfortable, provided with 2 pillows, safe, desk and 2 chairs. Bathroom also large. Choice of bath or shower. Shower pressure was good. Free wifi which worked well.

Breakfast was a fairly comprehensive buffet spread with the usual array of hot and cold food. Fruit juice unfortunately was a packet. Only issue with beakfast was crowding. There were no staff either to show you to a table or mark you off as you arrived so it was all a bit of a chaotic situation.

Check-out was at 12-00 which fitted in well with when our train was leaving.

We arrived in a Europcar and whilst advised that the office near the station would be open it was not. Car drop off point turned out to be at the Shell sevice station opposite the station which made it easy to fill up the tank. Just gave the keys to the petrol station cashier.

Room Tip: Get a room view a view to the exterior of the building not to an interior courtyard.

There was an electrical problem in my room, but besides that the staff was helpful and the location is excellent for business un the City. Although it is located literally on top of the train station you can barely notice neither noise nor vibrations. The breakfast buffet is good too. A big plus is that they have free WiFi.

Clean, nice rooms with nice bathroom. Friendly staff. Breakfast was very good. A lttle weird that its insid the central station, and i wish there was parking connected to the hotell. I also missed a view to the outside of the building, in the room as well as in the breakfasthall.
