We stayed here for a long weekend in late Sept’06.
Room. Not so much 5 Star fantastic but more like 4 Star average. Small, bland, very high ceilings that are disproportionate to the rest of the room. This makes it feel cold and lifeless, some basic design could easily have helped this. Clean with wooden floors. Noise level: I could at one point hear someone in the room above mine but it was not a problem. There seemed to be no air conditioning which may be an issue in the summer as once the windows are open you can hear all the street noise and night club close by.
Bathroom. Small, clean, functionable, green marble floor and sink, white everything else. Not the best shower power shower but worked well enough. Hair dryer a complete waste of time, so ladies it’s either go natural or get your hair set before arrival.
Lobby-Bar-Reception area. Fantastic, very ornate, wood carving, marble, mosaics, gold leaf paint, huge cut glass chandeliers. Bar; Small / intimate in a nice setting styled in a mix of contemporary and old, atmospheric light, lovely large windows, wood panelling, chandeliers and best cocktails you are ever likely to have. They stick with the basics but are really excellent. There is also a larger American style lively ‘pub’ in the basement.
Service. Very good, very helpful.
Breakfast. Very good, is in the lovely part of hotel most photographed. Incredible choice from bacon and eggs etc to a rang of meat cold cuts, cheeses, fresh breads, sauces, chutneys, Swedish caviar, smoked salmon and other fish. Fruits, i.e. melons, grapefruits, grapes etc, cereals, yogurts, fruit juices, the list goes on.
Comment. Had a lovely time here, enjoyed the hotel and the staff were so helpful. Room could have been better. Would I go back? May consider other options but knowing Gothenburg is quite small with limited options would be very happy to return.
