hotel is basic 3 star stuff...nothing fancy - bed and a hot shower. HOWEVER... its right on avelyn - party central and close to all the sights ... i.e. the sveedish ladies!

the transport is so good in gothenburg you could stay anywhere in it and be in the city centre in 10mins.

The hotel itself is located at the bottom of avelyn so when we landed in the central bus station from the airport(which is worth a look just to see how efficient the swedes even do their bus stations) just had a 10min walk through the city to nordstrom, a large shopping centre and up to avelyn.

The city itself is well laid out, wide streets, cycle lanes, no traffic jams everything to give a nice efficient swedish life style if you are in to that sort of thing. There is an old town part too with the cobbled narrow lanes, nice for strolling around and people watching - loads of cafes and small shops.

As for the night life... if there is a friendlier people in the world haven't met them, can't rate them high enough - great drinkers, good fun, the women are stunners and not shy about saying hello.

have been to a good many cities around euorpe and would def put gothenburg down for a re-visit.

Have just come back from a week's stay here and have nothing but praise for the Mornington.
We were in Gothenburg to watch the European Athletics Championships and wanted a hotel within walking distance of the Ullevi stadium. Even at our slow walking pace it took only 20 minutes to get there.
Hotel itself is on the main street (Avenyn) where there is an amazing choice of bars & restaurants. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the Avenyn, with triple glazed windows to keep the noise of late night revellers out. I imagine rooms at the back are quieter. Room was immaculately clean with polished wood floors and loose rugs: not huge but enough room to be comfortable. Not a lot of storage space, but maybe I take too much stuff. One day I will learn to pack light! Bathroom was wonderful: huge walk in shower, heated towel rail and all the usual fixtures and fittings. Again, immaculately clean.
Reception staff were extremely helpful and all speak perfect English. Breakfast was buffet style and included in the room rate - a great start to the day.
All in all the Mornington was exactly what we wanted. If ever I go back to Gothenburg I will certainly stay there again.

Great location -- what a wonderful feeling to exit the hotel front doors, and be EXACTLY where all the action is in this lovely city! So -- I'd rate the hotel highly because of this location, the cleanliness and helpfulness of staff. We were disappointed with the size of the room, which was about the size of a double room on a cruise ship. We couldn't both walk to the bathroom because their was only 18" between the two beds! However, everything we needed was in the room and the point in Gothenburg is to be OUT of the room, enjoying the restaurants, bars, etc. We had a blast at this place, and the food is great at the breakfast. Make sure you go to the Brasserie Lipp, a part of the hotel complex. It was packed with people after work on a Friday afternoon --- very hip place.

A pretty typical European hotel. At different times within my trip, I stayed in first a twin room (two single beds) and then a single room (one single bed). The rooms were clean and larger in size than a lot of other hotels in London for the price. The free breakfast was convenient and hearty, very well-done. The staff was not as knowledgeable or helpful as I would have liked. I received incorrect directions to one nearby restaurant and another time the clerk just looked at me like I was mad. Overall, though, a good experience if you're just looking for a place to lay your head at night and get a good hot shower.
