“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

First Hotel Mårtensson has two great features: The location and its friendly and helpful staff. The rest is a huge disappointment. Though the hotel appears esthetically appealing from the street, it is worn down and downright ugly indoors, with its depressing corridors and small, stained, dusty and very bad lit rooms. The worst of it all was the bathroom with a plastic carpet instead of tiles and with a toilet where they hadn´t even had the decency to exchange the very stained toilet seat. Taking a shower was far from pleasant, it seems there had once been a bathtub, but they had just removed it and left the shower corner without any protection for the water, that I later discovered had flooded the complete bathroom.. No kidding the bathroom had problems with mold. Luckily for us the management had left us a tool to personally remove the lake. Incredible! I was so upset. And they call themselves a 4-star hotel!?

I have stayed at Hotel Mårtensson three times the past few years and this August stay was no different from the previous ones.

The rooms are clean and spacious and included is free internet and a good breakfast. There is a small fridge in the rooms which is very good!

The hotel has nice and helpful staff. When we arrived the smoke detector was peeping every other minute but that was fixed immediately upon request.

The location great, just in the heart of town.

The best feature of Hotel Martenson is its location. Positioned in one end of the main entertainment street in Halmstad the positions is hard to beat.

The rooms however is not of the same standard. The bathrooms are old and the tiles on the walls often have cracks or other defects. Quite often the bathroom doesn't have an water overflow border filling the bathroom floor with water when taking a shower.

In the hotel there is a standard pub with a pub menu. They have an excellent whiskey sortiment and the food are acceptabel if somewhat overpriced.

There is a possibility to use public parking on the back road of the hotel, but free placees might be hard to find.

Internet is available to an seriously overpriced cost.

Good location, but don't stay here when it's warm. We found poor ventilation and no a/c. Also got a frequent whiff of sewer in the bathroom, which we found to be smallish. Try another place. We wouldn't return.

This is a nice location, however the hotel is no frills 4 stars, and I would give it a 2 star. The Staff is very friendly and helpful but the hotel itself could use a fluff. The adjoining restaurant can be a noise problem late into the night. If soccer game is on, you are not going to sleep much. Breakfast had to be changed from 8:30am to 6:30am during the week, why they did not serve before 8:30am the day of my arrival is unknown. There are many nice stores taunting you to the ever going “SALE” and plenty of restaurants in the immediate area to walk to. I was here on business and it would be the only reason why I would come back.

I have stayed here multiple times the last year. Martenson is a hotel which gives me mixed feelings. Some things are great, other somewhat annoying.

This is basically a kind of smallish 3+++ hotel. I belive 103 rooms. No minibar in the room. However a fridge that can be stocked by yourself. Rooms can be a bit on the smaller side. Beds are ok, especially if you ask for a 140 cm bed, which I believe is in US called a queensize?

Staff is great and friendly. The Pub connected to the hotel adds a lot of value. Here you can get a pint of draft beer (good selection) as well as a good meal. Another positive factor of the hotel is the location in the very centre of Halmstad.

Breakfast buffet is basic but includes scrambled eggs and of course boiled, bacon, toast, some fruit and vegetables. Breakfast is server in a small atrium which can be a bit chilly in the colder months.

It's a good stay but expect no luxory.

Nicely situated hotel with a nearby free parking (in the week-ends). Marketed as a four stared hotel but the truts is far from.
Helpful staff at the reception but the rest of the hotel doesn't live up to the four stars.

Small (or rather narrow) room with a narrow (but really comfortable) bed. The bathroom was nice. The channels in the TV Guide a couple of years out of date.

Breakfast was really dissapointing. Served in a noisy hall with horrible 80's art on the walls. The selection of breakfast food was one of the poorest we have experienced in a hotel in this range. More like a tourist hotel in England.

Nice pub situated in the hotel.

Overall – bad value of money...
