The nonsense started at checkin. The computer was down, so they had no record of our bookings. Eventually we were "manually checked in" and directed to our rooms.
My colleague got off lightly - his room key didn't work. In my case, the key worked and I entered the room to find another, rather startled occupant. Back at reception, we were promised upgrades for the inconvenience, and this time were escorted to our rooms. The hotel corridors are scruffy, with the doors all rather battered. My colleague described his room as "a bit like a ghetto". In my case, the bedroom was in excellent order, and looked newly furnished. The bathroom however looked tired and dirty.
The only redeeming features of this hotel are the rather spectacular "skybar" on the 24th floor, and the excellent restaurant on the 23rd floor, which was gourmet standard. The only mar was that we couldn't sign the meal or drinks to our rooms as the computer was down.
It was back down to earth at breakfast, with an unspectacular and limited spread.
Checkout met our now low expectation! 12 hours after checking in, the computer system was still down. We were not given bills, or even a value, but the staff took a credit card swipe and said they would send the receipt later (presumably to a value of their choosing).
