This hotel is just 5 mins walk from the train station, and very close to the park, library and Varmlands Museum. So the location is excellent. The whole area is surrounded by shops and restaurants and there will be something for every taste.
Reception is small, but the staff are friendly and efficient and speak English very well. They will give you a 24 hour wifi code and also a code to the front door, which is locked from 8.30pm onwards! You will also receive a door key for your room - NOT a keycard, but an actual physical door key. Don't lose it! There is only one lift, but I never saw it being busy.
The room is very basic, but it looks clean. The design I felt was a bit awkward, but it is generally what you expect at a European Ibis.
Bathroom is also basic and unfortunately it was obvious it had not been cleaned properly as there were hairs - long and short - all over the basin and floor. Very disappointed about this. Otherwise, the bathroom was adequate, although the toilet seat looked like it had been put on incorrectly and didn't quite sit right on the toilet. Only basic liquid soap and shower gel is provided, so you might want to bring your own.
Breakfast was very very basic - the same as you get in most Swedish Ibis hotels - ham, cheese, paté with breads, juices, teas and coffee. It was more than edible and pleasant. Breakfast is included in the price of the room.
Wifi was fast and easy to log-in. Note - you will need a different code for each device, but reception happily gave me two wifi codes. They are valid for 24 hours.
Overall - I prefer the Elite and Scandic hotels in Karlstad, but they also cost a lot more.
