“Just fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

Used to be a bit of an elegant, up-scale place. they have a different approach now but the food is still quite good. The views and people-watching are great if you are lucky with the weather and can sit outdoors.

“Nice food, bad overall experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

We don't go out to be lectured or dictated to. We were initially told that there were was no wine list which astonished us, but that there were 2 types of wine on offer, red and white. When we explored the type of white wine, further, we were asked what we would like so we opted for French and suggested a Chablis or Chablis Premier Cru if they had it. They brought both after much rummaging and we chose a Bottle of Chablis Premier Cru by Fourchaume. It was off. It was a very dark yellow and tasted like vinegar so we sent it back and asked for the slightly cheaper priced Chablis. The maitre d came over at that point and brought back the rejected CPC by Fourchaume and told us that she had tasted it herself and it and was perfectly fine. My husband re tasted in her presence and showed her the colour and told her that he knew this particular wine and it was off. A lecture of sorts ensued as she tried to persuade us it was our palate. We said we would settle for the cheaper Chablis but were then informed that they had only one bottle and they had sold one glass of it while all this was going on.....there was no other bottle available. More rummaging ....it was quite exhausting to experience the huffing and puffing and bother that we put them to and frankly, I wanted to leave at that point. We finally settled on a nice Italian Tommasi and the evening proceeded with our ordering our food half an hour after our arrival. The herring was lovely as were the smoked shrimp. We got wet napkins...not quite finger bowls with lemon. The reindeer and grilled veg. main courses were very nice. The front of house staff let the chef down badly and it seems from a prior review, that this has occurred before. The entry hall to the restaurant and indeed the walls, are decorated with empty, high quality wine bottles and this and the restaurant's reputation, would lead one to think that they would have an extensive and published wine list. I can't see why they won't list what they stock and the price.

“Enjoyable food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

Had the reindeer dish which was very tasty, meat was perfectly cooked, nice vegetables & sauce, only comment is the potato pancakes were a bit oily and burnt at the edges.
Service was very good, we weren't as dressed up as other diners but didn't notice any snooty attitude as others have mentioned.
Prices were standard for Sweden, drinks looked expensive so avoided.

“Good but poor value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday and as a special treat. Initial impressions were very good as it is in a prefect location below the cathedral, it looks impressive externally and internally and is fitted to a high standard. This was not matched by our initial greeting which was rather "snooty", we not seeming to fit their expectations of their clientele. The menu is interesting with a reasonable selection but is at the very upper end of what I would consider acceptable. As a starter I had smoked shrimps - very nice but no finger bowl was offered. As main courses my wife and daughter had reindeer - delicious, well presented and the right quantity. I had beef which was cooked to perfection but the dish suffered from too much of a mix of strong flavours. The same over complication of flavours came with my dessert. The melon "soup" with licorice ice-cream was imaginative and lovely but did not need added peanuts.
The service did improve as the evening went on but it felt like we had to draw this attitude out rather than being offered it.
As with previous commentators, my biggest criticism is re the drinks. When we asked for a wine list we were told disdainfully that they did not have a wine list and they would make a recommendation. Although that recommendation was well based, it did not give us the opportunity of viewing all the options nor did it let us judge the cost. £50 for a bottle of pleasant but not exception Cotes Du Rhone is high even by Swedish prices. Wine is offered by the glass or the bottle and they seem to prefer to go by the glass route. Not surprising when I eventually saw what they charged for one additional glass!
In summary, go to this place if you want to impress someone with the property or location. If you are looking for good Swedish food, friendly service and MUCH better prices, go to Le Parc.

“Swedish portions, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

A restaurant with great Swedish dishes, but of course the tiny portions that Swedish restaurants usually serve. Still, it's pretty darned good.
