“On a high!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

What a tall building! Well worth seeing for the architecture and to appreciate its proportions. Very interesting museum of old church artifacts and some of historical interest as well.

“Interesting to look inside and contemplate life and death”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

For anyone who enjoys history, this is a must. Notables, including botanist Carl Linnaeus, past royalty (including King Gustav Vasa and his consorts - gotta love that word!) and saints, are interred within the cathedral. There are also concerts here, which are worth attending. After strolling inside the entire cathedral (I suggest buying a little guidebook for 10 SEK), I like to sit on a pew and contemplate life and death.

“A Must visit in Uppsala!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Me and my husband visit this place 13th May
Uppsala Cathedral is Amazing beautiful and bigger than Storkyrkan in Stockholm and it is the tallest church building in Scandinavia. ( 118.7 m height )
Don't miss the Runestone outside the church.
Enjoy my pictures.

“A Must see in Uppsala”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The church is amazing, you have to do the tour if you come to Uppsala. Spend some time reviewing all the art and artifacts, maybe not a great place for really small children.

“You can't miss it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Coming to Uppsala, you can't and you mustn't miss the cathedral.

With 117 meters its two main towers are the tallest in Scandinavia, and you will see them, together with the pink Uppsala castle, from afar across the Uppsala plain.

Like so many cathedrals it took hundreds of years to build, rebuild and extend, and changed hands from the Catholic to the new Lutheran church during the reformation. It was significant for Swedish history as the place for coronation of the Swedish monarchs until the end of the 17th century. A large number of Swedish kings and notable people are entombed inside the cathedral.

The building style was changed through the centuries from the original, medieval Baltic Gothic (robust brick walls) to baroque and then to Neo-Gothic (interior ceiling and walls). Whatever style - it is an impressive building.

If you visit with young children, let them find the little bird at the entrance to King Gustav Vasa's chapel. With teenagers, let them count how many wives he had (one at a time). By yourselves, try and attend an organ concert (regularly on Saturday afternoons) - the acoustics of the church and the new organ are superb. And it is a wonderful place for meditation on a busy day.
