Owner description: Flygvapenmuseum, the Swedish Air Force Museum, is a modern technical and cultural history museum with exhibitions that trace the development of military aviation from the pioneers of the early 20th century to the present. It offers a unique collection of aircrafts, many of which can only be seen at the Swedish Air Force Museum. Perhaps the most spectacular object in the collection is the Swedish DC-3, an aircraft that was a shot down by a Soviet fighter aircraft in 1952. More than fifty years later the DC-3 was found, salvaged and put to its final resting place here at the museum. Flygvapenmuseum is a place where knowledge and play come together in a natural way. The museum's science centre, the Flight Lab, features flight simulators and experimental stations on the theme of flying. Become a pilot for a day and sit behind the controls of the flight simulator - like flying for real!

“Good aviation museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Lots of good examples of Swedish airplanes. A fun hands-on experiment area on aviation. The cold war era exhibits were well-done and interesting. We found the Catalina incident particularly educational-- we had never heard about that before.

“I loved the 1 of 1 aircraft on display, planes you can't see anywhere else!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

This is a great little museum with a lot of interesting aircraft. If you have some free time, this is worthy of a few hours detour. The different displays from each decade were great, I loved it. I'd probably go back and visit again next time I'm in town.

“Superb experience - brilliant display!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Well worth the drive from Gothenberg to reach the recently reopened museum complex. The exhibits are beautifully restored and displayed in chronological order from early biplanes from the WW1 and 1920s eras to the latest SAAB products. Some unique aircraft and a good representation from the UK and other nations supplied before and after WW2. It highlights the ingenuity and high quality of Swedish design and engineering, something many are not aware of except for SAAB cars and Scania trucks.

The Finnish marked Gladiator with original snow boots and the Bristol Pegasus engined Hawker Hart both in Winter War markings complete with the Blue Swastika are particularly poignant. The shop, restaurant, artifacts, library and research facilities are very good indeed. Large free car park and well signposted directions make the arrival easy.

One of the finest aircraft museums I have been to an bears close comparison with our much larger and extensive Hendon.

“Very Interesting and Varied Displays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

The Swedish Air Force Museum features a wide variety of displays, suitable for all ages. It has, at first glance, entire fighter aiplanes, as well as detailed parts; Swedish cold war history elements, and, of course, interactive fun. This last category is mostly aimed at children, but my friends and I enjoyed it regardless.

What really caught my interest is the whole room dedicated to a plane that was lost in the cold war and recovered 52 years later. Most of the plane is on display, as well as a detailed timeline. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning.

Overall, great value for the money. You should not miss this place if you are in the area.
