The Stanga Hotel in Linköping, Sweden, is one of the worst places where I've ever stayed. I booked it over the internet for a room rate of 90 EUR per night including breakfast and the description said something like 'central location'.
I arrived with a KLM flight from Amsterdam at 10:30 p.m. at Linköping airport, so by the time I arrived at the 'hotel' it was about 11 p.m. The door was locked, nobody there, no reception staff. Just a piece of paper glued with scotch tape to the entrance door which informed you that if you'll arrive after 10 p.m. you'll have to ring a certain telephone number. Imagine the battery of your cell phone went dead, then you'll have a problem.
After some time a sleepy voice answered my call and explained to me in not very understandable English that I'll have to enter a certain 5-digit code into the keypad close to the door. The door opened. Inside, I had to enter the same code into a metal box where I could then take out my room key.
No staff during the night in the whole house, no vending machine, no gas station with a 24h shop nearby and of course no mini bar in this sort of place. Remember, 90 EUR per night. Be prepared to drink tab water.
The rooms are a standard which isn't worth 30 EUR/night. Small and bad air. The furniture looks like somebody else has thrown it away. No air conditioning, so the only way to get in some fresh air is to open the window, which is easier said than done. The rooms are towards a four-lane road and directly behind is the railway, so you'll never feel really alone. because of the noise they added additional glass windows on the inside of the room and they are constructed in a way that they'll open into one direction and the outer windows open into the opposite direction, which is a very smart design because it will force you to fully open the windows and you have the choice between either stuffy air or a lot of noise. There are curtains but they are not light tight so you'll find it impossible to make the room dark.
And it's only a 10 m2 room including bath room. The shower curtain looks like it's been hanging there since the last war.
The breakfast variety is poor and I really felt like being very rude to the staff which was there n the morning but they were so nice I just couldn't complain too much.
I have the feeling that if this place would offer rooms for 30 EUR/night there would be a target group of backpackers and low budget tourists but for 3 times that much it's definitely an impertinence.
