The worst things about the hotel are its design amd some staffing problems. First, there are stairs from the street to the front door, no ramp and no one in evidence to help with luggage. My husband and I had to struggle with our luggage, taking two trips up the stairs, with our rental car parked in a loading zone. Even after checking in, there was no one anywhere to help with luggage. The people behind the desks were helpful, though we had to wait about 15 minutes on a long line to reach a clerk. The room was clean and decent except for more design flaws. There is no closet or wardrobe to hang clothes, only a bare metal clothes rack with hangars that looks like an afterthought--as if the designers forgot to include one and people complained. The literature. In the room touts the design, but the clothes rack tells a different story. There are no drawers to put clothing, etc, just a few shelves. In the bathroom there is a major design flaw. The tub is so situated, with the faucet end surrouded by a wall so it was nearly impossible to reach the controls without undressing and getting into the tub. This might be ok for someone who wants to shower but not for someone who wants to use the otherwise nice tub for a bath. There is no shower curtain or anything else to deflect the shower spray so the floor gets wet from the shower. In addition, there was no bath mat provided so we were forced to use a hand towel to stand on the wet floor. Only two skimpy hand towels and two bath towels were provided and they were not of the quality one would expect in a first class hotel. This makes me wonder if the owners or manager have ever stayed in the hotel or even done an objective inspection. If they had, the flaws would have been obvious. All in all, other than these objections, the hotel is run adequately, but the objections spoiled our stay. It would have been so easy for the hotel to remedy some of the design flaws and the lack of help with luggage and the towels provided (robes would have been a nice touch). The room and bathroom were were clean, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. That is as much as I could say in its favor. But it could be a first-class hotel with some attention. Unfortunately, in our experienxe,, it is barely 2nd class, but with first-class prices.
