I spent 4 nights at the hotel in mid-February, on a mixed business and sightseeing trip. I was surprised by the high hotel prices during this time of the year in Stockholm, and was very happy to find out that the hotel lived up to my expectations, even though it was far cheaper that comparable hotels close to the central train station. The hotel is 500 meters or so from the Odenplan metro station, which is in turn three stops from the central station and four stops from the old town (Gamla Stan). When carrying bags in the snow, this is not a negligible distance, but without bags you can get to the central station in around 15 minutes total (maybe 20 minutes late at night when trains are more sparse). There are also many buses stopping within 150 meters of the hotel, going in various directions, and since bus stops have electronic signs with the time and number of the next bus, it is possible to start towards the metro and hop on a bus on the way there. While Stockholm is a beautiful city and a joy to walk through, the public transport system is so efficient and extensive, that walking is an option and not a requirement.
The hotel consists of two buildings, so each floor is actually at two separate levels. I had a room on the back, overlooking a school basketball court. I did not hear anything from the outside though throughout my stay. The room and the hotel were well heated, despite the cold outside. The room was comfortably sized, with enough space to open two large bags and a little desk. The shower was very well designed and spacious, and thoroughly cleaned, like the room. Wireless Internet was included in the price and worked fine, and a large flat TV offered around 15 channels, mostly Swedish, but fortunately Swedish TV does not dub movies and series, so if you speak English there is always something to watch.
Breakfast was very good, large selection of cold and hot items and many local items, so that you can get a taste the local food. There was some variation every day, especially in the desserts, which was refreshing on a four day stay. Everything that I tried was of very good quality and the buffet was quickly restocked. Although the breakfast area is quite large, the hotel is also very large, and it can get loaded on the weekend, but not really crowded.
The reception was helpful with small but important things like printing boarding passes and preparing a custom invoice. There is a large super market next door which is open until late and over the weekend. The area was very nice and felt very safe. There are a few possibilities for eating and drinking close to the hotel (the hard rock cafe is actually two blocks away) and more options close to the Odenplan station, but the more central areas of Stockholm have far more to offer, and it would be a great shame to visit Stockholm and not visit its older and grander areas.
Overall, I was very happy with the hotel, and would definitely visit it again when in Stockholm and recommend it to everyone that can spare 15 minutes of commuting time in exchange for a very good price on a great hotel.
