“Basic but clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

This is a centrally-located, budget hotel in a capital city. It is basic, with no frills, but it provided all we needed and everywhere was clean. We had a double room with ensuite shower room. The room was on the small side but we only needed a base for a short city break so it was perfectly adequate. The self-service buffet breakfast offered a limited selection of food but there was always plenty. The street is quiet, and is handy for both the main shopping streets and the central train station. If you are reasonably fit and able then much of the city is accessible on foot, eg Gamla Stan, Ostermalm, Djurgarden. I would go back.

Room Tip: Top (5th) floor facing the street, as the buildings are quite tall and on that floor you get some li...

Good central location, not far from the station, 10 - 15 minutes walk, and on a quiet ish street,
If you are arriving by airport bus from Arlanda airport, or by train, turn right to meet Vasagatan St. then head left for about 10 mins walk.along Vasagatan St. which continues into Upplandsgatan St.. The hotel is on a parallel Vastmannagatan street.

The single receptionists on each shift were polite and helpful. There are 2 free internet computers for guests use in Reception.

Beds are reasonably comfortable, My single budget room had a wall mounted tv, 1 single chair and a double wardrobe ( IKEA what else ! )The elevator needed to be closed properly to work, otherwise a long walk up to the top floors !! The room is small, but clean and warm. To my surprise, my so called " Budget " room did not come with 1 single /double bed, but a Double bunk style bed ! I guess one can double up if as if for double occupancy in the summer months ! You have to make your own bed and fit your own pillows with the sheets and pillow case supplied. There´s no telephone on the room (ie. no wake-up call if you need it), but there is a clock radio with alarm..The breakfast was adequate, and with a great coffee/chocolate machine. The shared bathrooms were clean but worked well, There are more than one wc/shower rooms on each floor.

The location is superb, in a nice neighborhood and in walking distance from the central train/bus station. This hotel is still a good value budget hotel in expensive Stockholm,

Ignore the images that you will see in any advertisement or website, such as agoda, this place is terrible. We had booked 3 nights and departed the next morning due to our disappointment worth the place.

There are not private bathrooms, not even private toilets, they are shared. The room we stayed in had not been vacuumed, we had to use a sock to brush the floor clean enough to walk on.

The name 'Colonial Hotel' itself is misleading, it's a hostel. Avoid staying here at any cost.

Not worth a cent of your hard-earned money.

Rooms are the size of broom closets.
You can hear when the person staying down the end of the hall gets up for a bowel movement because every door & floor board creaks & cracks with the smallest of movement.
I don't think they own a vacuum cleaner; the floor crunches beneath your feet.
Toilets are all shared despite your room's specific advertisement.
WiFi connection only works on the ground floor.
"Breakfast" constitutes toast, muesli, coffee & tea, with some rather dubious looking eggs & sliced meats.

Pathetic, is all I have to say about this place.

Read this if you consider putting a reservation at the Colonial Hotel.
I reserved a room in last minute as other locations were busy.
I stayed there in a Budget room. And guess what? There was no bathroom. Only shared toilets and shower. And you have to make your bed on your own!
WIFI WAS NOT WORKING and although I mentionned it, they were not able to repair.
For 750 SEK, I know it is quite cheap for Stockholm, but it is very expensive for a place which resembles more like to a youth hostel (though I never experienced a youth hostel).
The shower room is very basic too (not much water pressure) as well as the bathroom which are both located in the corridor.
The bed was ok but there was a strange smell in the room.
Earplugs are mandatory as you can hear everything from the other rooms.
This was probably the cheapest place I went to in my whole life, even considering the price paid.

The good: location is great, not far from the station and on a quiet ish street. Beds are reasonably comfortable.

The bad: breakfast isn't wonderful, and is served in a small, crowded room. Not ideal. The bathrooms are tiny, and the shower heads needs replacing. The water is more of a dribble than an actual shower. Also, the one staff member we accounted (young, dark hair) wasn't fantastic, either. The corridors have high ceilings, and therefore everything echoes - making the rooms noisy at all times. The wireless ddidnt work properly in our room (206).

My final complaint here, which is so ridiculous is just shows that the owners have clearly not bothered to actually take the time to spend a night in their own hotel - the television. Ours was mounted above the door, facing the window. It was very small, and was raised over 2 meters off the ground. As it faced the window, regardless of whether it was night or dark, this made it impossible to actually see! Just stupid. Pointless having a television if you can't see what is got on?

Save your money and spend a night somewhere nicer in Stockholm.

Room Tip: Request a room at the end of the corridor, so you are away from the worst of the noise.
