The food.......tasty and hot. Needs some attention.
The service .......needs a lot of work.
The story.........arrived on spec at 6.15 & offered a window-side table immediately. The restaurant was, perhaps, half to two-thirds full and not all diners had been served. Menus were delivered promptly, the order taken and drinks served, all within 10 minutes.
Over the ensuing 25 minutes and on a restaurant-wide basis, 3 take-out orders were delivered and two main courses brought to tables. Customers at a near-by table, who had arrived/ordered before us, were served piecemeal - one plate here, another 5 minutes later, a third later still. Service seemed to go almost in waves, but generally one or two plates at a time. The last time, the last Indian restaurant where service was like this was in Kinshasa, DRC, but the bad service in that instance was for a multitude of other reasons, like power outages, supply shortages etc.
Our order arrived - 1 main course, followed 5-6 minutes later by the second and both naan breads. But 25 minutes is, in my view, too long to wait, especially if a starter isn't ordered or if the restaurant isn't offering appetisers. I contrasted our order time with that of two other tables which were occupied after we arrived, both of which had their drinks, starters and main courses served in a shorter period than ourselves. Maybe we hit the premises at a staff-valley time, maybe lots of things, but this just wasn't good enough.
To its credit, the food was generally worth waiting for - piping hot and full of flavours, although the coriander-flavoured naan bread tasted little of coriander (despite a generous layer of chopped leaves) and the sweet garlic chicken was much more sweet than garlic.
Plates were polished clean of food and two beers and a fruit smoothie brought the bill to 580 SEK.
Value for money? Overall, Shanti gets a pass mark, but only just.
This is a relatively new restaurant, on a street where there are many well established eateries.
Management needs to tackle the order-to-meal-delivery time interval & the food flavour issues. Then the rating will climb exponentially, but from this evening's experience, it doesn't deserve more than average. We'll return in a few weeks and see if things have improved - I hope they will.
