“Mixed bag, but not so good overall”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

Rarely do I knock a hotel, but this was one of my poorest hotel experiences in a long time.

I'll start with the good parts.
Hotel desk staff was very friendly and efficient.
Breakfast was nice and had nice variety considering the price of the room (about $100 for an "economy" room) in central Stockholm. The breakfast area was pleasant, too.
Location is great for access to all parts of Stockholm because the hotel is within a block of the Slussen T-bana/Bus station.
Internet access was pretty good and very nice to have it for no extra charge.

There were a few significant downsides, though.
1) NOISE. I stayed for 2 nights and they *were on the weekend* at the end of summer and the weather was good. Lots of people were out partying & that's understandable. However, the windows were totally inadequate for keeping out street noise. Also, the walls were thin and you could hear doors slamming all night. Sleep was hard to come by. The situation is bound to be better on weekdays and when fewer people are out.

2) BATHROOMS. My room was in the "economy" section which had shared baths. No problem with that... I knew it going in, but the rooms for the toilets were incredibly small. You couldn't even turn around in them. Shower and toilet area did not seem terribly clean, but not "bad", either.

3) BED and furniture. The bed was *really* soft and uneven. Only chairs to sit on in the room were really hard. My friend had the next room over and he had a decent chair. Furnishings overall were pretty worn down.

Overall, I'd suggest getting a room that's above the "economy" standard if you stay here, and if its high season, bring earplugs or something else to help you sleep.

Room Tip: Choose something other than the economy option.

I was really lucky to get little room, because location is very good, and interesting Södermalm is around corner. I was surprised that this hotel was not expensive and noisy, because of all restaurants and bars near hotel. Room was very little, but charming, bed excellent. You feel perhaps that you have to take your diary and start to write something like teenager brought into grandparents' countryside house. If you have troubles with using stairs, perhaps you ask before booking, has hotel easy access rooms. Breakfast is cafefully planned, very nice, and because this is very small hotel you might be eating it all alone, if you want to eat it during weekend early (like 7 am). Little, personal, cosy hotel. Friendly staff.

Hotel Anno 1647 had a perfect location right next to the Slüssen metro station at Södermalm.

Also close by is the shopping/restaurant street, and it´s in walking distance to Medborgarplatzen with even more restaurants and shoppingcentre and nightlife. Very close to the Old city and the downtown area. A nice walk.

I enjoyed staying in this hotel, good breakfast and good service.

I stayed in a standard single room. Quite small, but ok. Nothing fancy, kind of "old charm".
I think the upgraded rooms were more fancy. Heard some noice from the shopping/restaurant street at night, but didn´t bother me.

I would not stay here if I were disabled, since there was no elevator, and most likely you will have to climb the stairs.

Room Tip: SIngle standard room was ok.

A nice and cosy hotel just around the corner of one of the best shopping districts in the hip & trendy Södermalm.

This "hotel" is listed at both Hotels.com and Hotwire.com as a 3-star hotel. But be aware; read ALL of the booking documents because in smaller lettering further down on the page does is say that the room you have just booked share bathroom with the other rooms on the corridor.

If you like me refuses to accept to share the two small toilets and two shower stalls with the other eight or so rooms on the floor, you have to pay extra to be allowed to “upgrade” to the "hotel" part of Hotell Anno 1647. I was refused a refund because I had booked through Hotels.com. For me this meant that the two nights I had booked ended up being as expensive as if I had booked at one of the top 4-star hotel in Stockholm that also sell their rooms through the same hotel finders. The room I then got was tiny at around 8 square metres and the “bathroom” so small that I had to squeeze in behind the bathroom sink in order to sit down on the toilet.

The rooms, especially in the hostel part of the Hotell Anno 1647, came across as unclean. The painted eighties glass fibre wallpaper was dirty. In the tiny “hotel” room I was upgraded to the furniture were marked by cigarette burns.

I cannot see this “hotel” as anything but a scam. Stay away and book somewhere else.

On checking out did the receptionist take a carbon print of my credit card and then forgot to return it to me, something that I did not discover before I tried to pay an expensive dinner on a coastal steamer where I was subsequently threatened with the police because I could not find my card and could only offer to pay with Norwegian Kroner for the meal, something that was brusquely refused. An extremely unpleasant and unnecessary situation, and quite typical of the lack of care and potential dishonesty that this "hotel" represent.

Room Tip: read all of the booking documents, so that you are aware of what you have bought.

As a frequent business traveller to Stockholm, staying at this hotel was indeed a great disappointment. 1.950 SEK/night for a small single room felt like a rip off. No elevator, no mini bar, no air-condition with 30 degrees Celsius it felt like a bad joke. When I asked for someone to help out with my luggage they offered to watch it while I had to make two trips to the third floor. Sure, the building is historic, but the hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. Sorry, but this was my first and guranteed last stay here.

My teenaged son and I loved staying here for two nights. We were delighted with the quality and variety at breakfast. The hotel staff were professional and efficient.
Our room, which had a single bed plus a murphy bed, was admittedly small, yet was nonetheless clean, cozy and comfortable.
If you visit this hotel, you should embrace its individuality and history. We enjoyed its winding stone stairwells, inner courtyard, and other quirks.
Isn't that what you want if you choose a hotel that is 300 years old? Try it!
