“Perfect location and reasonable priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

My friend and I were looking for a centrally located hotel in Stockholm for 1 night before our cruise. We had read good things about the Central Hotel here on Trip Advisor and decided to book 2 rooms. The location is perfect, directly around from the train station (you can easily catch the train at the airport). The neighbourhood is great, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The rooms are standard European size and while I was originally concerned that there was no A/C I had no problem sleeping. I'd stay here again!

Room Tip: Stop off at Bistro Bestick around the corner for a great meal, but go early as many of the menu item...

Booked a small one person room. Free wifi available. Asked for late check-out and they actually let me choose my own check-out time - where else can you get this?! Wow :-) Good value for money, nothing fancy just good.

Spent a few nights during a recent business trip to Stockholm. Clean and comfortable with a really nice breakfast. Very handy location across the road from Stockholm Central Train Station. Rooms are small, but adequate and reasonably priced.

Hotel is ideally located for Arlanda Express and Stockholm Central station. Reception foyer lacking in atmosphere. Rooms small but quirky. Good breakfast offering. Didn't see much action/custom in the restaurant in the evening: not a good sign.

The hotel is centrally located very close to the station. Walk out of the station on the lower level and turn left. 20 minute walk to the old city.
My single room was very small. The drawer units were tired. The bathroom was spacious. Another reviewer described how the shower sticks into the bedroom itself- making the room even smaller. Until you see it you cannot believe it!! I had room 206 - single rooms on the other side of the corridor are slightly bigger.
Breakfast was good - excellent cold buffet. Small outdoor courtyard area was nice.
If you pre-book through a company just check that reception charge the correct price on check out - they tried to charge me almost £200 more ! All in all I would recommend this hotel for a short break.

The Central Hotel offers excellent value for money in the expensive city of Stockholm. As it's name suggests the hotel is centrally located conveniently opposite the Arlanda Airport Express terminal in the city. A generous breakfast buffet is included in the room price. We found the staff friendly and welcoming. The bedrooms are incredibly quiet for a city centre hotel, clean and quite comfortable - not that big but not a concern when you have the beautiful city of Stockholm to explore. I would definitely stay here again for the value it represents and the convenient location.

As far as location is concerned: if you are coming into/going out of Stockholm C (or Arlanda Express to ARN), you can't pick a better location. About 3min to the Arlanda Express stop. Lots of eating options nearby from MAX (a Swedish fast food chain) to Bishop's Arms (a ubiquitous "British" pub chain), to 3+ blocks of eateries along adjacent Kungsgatan. Close to Drottninggatan's pedestrian shopping, too. Fasching jazz club is just around the corner, about 5min walk.

The hotel is nothing fancy, but it is clean and reliably bland. The US equivalent would probably be a nice La Quinta. The breakfast is large (by Scandinavian standards). On a nice day, the glass-roofed breakfast area is quite nice. They have complimentary "fika" laid out in the lobby all day.

The single rooms are small, as is typical in European capitals. The layout of my single room was standard for the hotel, with the round shower in the center of the room (not as crazy as it may sound), making the room a somewhat awkward "L" shape. Bathroom was spartan, but clean (if not a little institutional looking). Shower had a door so you were able to keep the rest of the bathroom dry--a rarity in Sweden.

My biggest complaint was the lack of individual control of the air conditioning. It never really gets that hot (by southern US standards) in Stockholm in the summer, but I still wanted it a little cooler than it was (80F/27C). Since windows of rooms on the inside of the hotel open out to the delivery dock, opening a window resulted in more noise than you would want during the day, and didn't really cool the room much. This would only ever be an issue in August, though.

Nights were surprisingly quiet, given the urban setting. No sound from window or neighboring rooms.

Overall, the single room feels a little like a US college dormitory, but is fine for most travelers who just need a safe, clean place to bed for the night. Especially if you need to be close to the train station, this is a good deal. I wouldn't pay more than 200 USD for a single, however, under any circumstances. (If $200 for a single sounds ridiculous: Välkomna till Sverige!")

However, if you want to get a more "Stockholm"-like experience, I would suggest staying further away from the train station, as this area is 90% tourists. Moreover, if you are comfortable with this level of hotel, you can get better deals elsewhere in the city; perhaps near Odenplan or on the Norrmalm side of Birger Jarlsgatan. Central Stockholm is not *that* large.

Room Tip: Get higher up and on the interior (courtyard) side for less noise and more privacy.
