“Antique style- modern service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Kung Carl is located near Stureplan, downtown Stockholm. A late 1900-century palace, with no identical rooms. Spatious rooms with 12 ft to the ceiling, and the smallest shower ever. It works, though ! Charming stairs, great breakfast.

Stayed in Kung Carl as a part of a three day business trip and was utterly disappointed with the standard of the room. No larger than an IKEA Malm dresser, facing the very, very busy street of Birger Jarls Gatan, so even at the fourth floor, traffic noise was rather loud. This, compared to the fact that I had ordered a supperior room, makes me wonder if the plain, ordinary, non-supperior rooms are located in a moist dungeon below the streets of Stockholm.
Brush up the rooms with brighter colors, sound proof the windows and things will be better. The hotel had an excellent and central location that must cause envy with it's competitors.
The staff is very friendly and the hotel as such is not at all up to par with the staffs level of service and kindness.

Many thanks for your feedback and for giving top marks to our restaurant, Kung Carls Bakficka, which you marked 5 out of 5. I am so sorry to hear that the hotel room did not meet your expectations during your latest stay. Please let me know how I can contact you directly as I would like to have a thorough look at the room you stayed in (each year we upgrade the interior of about 10% of our total capacity and I wish to ensure that you room is included the next time). Please feel free to contact me any time on christian.ostlundh@hkchotels.se or +4670-6628865.

Kind Regards,

Christian Ostlundh

Stayed here for a week for work and a few days holiday. Very close to Ostermalmsberg metro stop and about a 15 minute brisk walk from central station. Loads of restaurants of various types and cuisines nearby and a good selection of coffee shops and convenience stores. It can indeed be a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday nights - but it is right in the heart of the city centre and there are people around letting their hair down. Noise was evident but wasn't a problem - never needed the ear plugs in the room - indeed with the windows shut couldn't here much. The staff were great and so helpful and always had advice and a smile. The breakfast buffet did have a sameness to it after a week, but the standard was always high and the food consistent in quality, so this can only be a good sign. Our room looked out over Kungsgatan and this main artery gets a lot of boisterous traffic late at night from restaurants and nightclubs, but that's city life. The bed was comfy, the shower and bathroom perfect and the room was good to work in - it became my office after the holiday part of the trip was over. The free wifi never let me down. The Kung Carl was as good as a home from home by the time I was leaving. One thing I will not miss though was the sluggish lift that took for ages to arrive and seemed to have a mind of its own.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and payed 3000SEK for a classic double room with breakfast. Not too bad price for a European city.

This is a good hotel in the heart of the party area of Stockholm. The area is pretty noisy during the night, so beware of this. The hotel provides earplugs, which indicates that many guests have trouble sleeping because of the noise.

We had a pretty, but quite small room, with spacious bathroom. The rooms are in old-fashioned style, but stylish. A few minor details (like broken hairdryer holder, no light bulb in one lamp...) spoil the total impression a bit, so the hotel staff should really pay attention to this, especially since it's so easy to fix. The hotel entrance is a bit anonymous, but the inside (lobby area...) is nice, old glory restored in great Swedish style. They served great breakfast, with moderate selection of hot meals, but everything was of top quality. The hotel employees were very polite and professional, knowing how to help without being in your way. I like this about Scandinavia, unlike the US where everyone is in your face all the time, being "nice", but those who like the American way may dislike the service here.

There is no parking at the hotel but they have a deal with a parking garage nearby where the guest can leave their cars for 450SEK for the entire weekend. All in all, great hotel for a shorter stay, city trip, shopping, nightlife ....

Room Tip: Our room in 6th floor had just small windows, so if you want a room at higher floors, ask for 5th.

In general we had a great stay location good, the hotel is spotless. I did get the room at a discounted rate, however had I been paying full price I wouldn't have been thrilled the room was quite small.

I was pleasantly surprised with the feel of the room during a recent weekend visit. The decor was very stylish and the bed was comfortable. The location is good, with a lot of activities and shopping all around.

despite the old building, the hotel is comfortable, clean , has friendly staff and a good breakfast .Some rooms, exposed to Stureplan, can be noisy , during the songs of drunk young people .Internet is working excellent , cleaning staff is quiet and efficient , and beds are made for a good sleep ! I think there is a difference between rooms from 5 and 6 floor (new and brightly ) and rooms from below levels (old and rusty furniture).
But, if you want a central and value for money hotel, do not hesitate !

Room Tip: avoid rooms with windows to Stureplan.
