“Nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

We stayed in Stockholm for two nights at Crystal Plaza, and had an overall good experience at this hotel. The hotel is very pretty from the outside, a bit dated on the inside, but the room we had was a good size, clean and comfortable. We did not need to interact much with the staff during our stay, but service at the front desk was helpful. The included buffet breakfast is nice, with a pretty decent selection of your standard continental breakfast options. The best thing about this hotel is the location, which is within walking distance of the old town, Gamla Stan, and the general neighbourhood seems quite upscale, with a lot of nice shopping and restaurants.

I had to change my room, the first one they checked me into was smaller than my wardrobe room back home....The hotel staff were all very friendly and kind. For some reason you feel like you are in a middle class Chinese atmosphere. The best thing about the hotel (aside from the kind staff) is the location and the hotel facade looks like a historic building. Sadly the hotel is in dire need of renovation and image make over.

Room Tip: Book this hotel only when it is renovated or if there is a good promotional price

Stayed one night at a business trip. Hotel is very central if you are a local. Arriving by bus/train from airport Arlanda or railway central station includes a metro ride, a 10 min walk or taxi. Hotel has 7 floors and one small lift. Rooms are standard and the heated floor in bathroom is nice. Breakfast included and of normal scandinavian type.

When travelling in Europe or North America; I mostly try to find simple, economical accommodation that is 1) clean, 2) warm (winter issue), 3) in a decent central location, and 4) with working wifi. It is a plus with a simple breakfast, but not a necessity.

I have used this hotel a number of times over the years since it delivered on those parameters. But my recent stay may put an end to that.

Over a week I was in three different rooms (arriving and leaving Stockholm a couple of times). Two of the rooms were 18 C which to me is below room temperature – particularly during the Swedish winter when you need to reheat when indoor. I can understand that it is tempting to save on heating costs through the settings of the central heating system (the room radiators didn’t respond to local settings) but even the corridors were cold. To me this is not acceptable. The hotel was able to provide an extra electric heater that addressed the problem, but I would prefer not to have to raise it nor have the discomfort of a cold night before that. It is simply poor form to be tight on heating in a hotel situation in the Swedish winter.

Additionally, I had an unfortunate situation with one of the receptionists. One of the rooms had no separation between the shower and the rest of the bathroom floor which predictably resulted in a wet bathroom floor. I used some of the towels provided to swoop it up and asked for another set of towels at the next convenience. The receptionist (by the name of Sofia shed said) replied that I should have told them earlier since she was alone at the reception now (around 8pm, I think) making it difficult. I told her that I would have to use the shower before I would realize the need, but she persisted very bluntly with that line. I made her aware that this was a predictable situation that probably wasn’t the first time, but to no avail. In the end, she didn’t arrange for new towels – this was arranged by the night receptionist when we asked again later. Rude and unreasonable service of this particular receptionist that cast a poor light on the otherwise decent service level.

I would not recommend this hotel any longer

This hotel is old fashioned. Some may see this as a quirky thing, but to me it is old fashioned in the out dated sort of way. Its got old, creaky rooms, the floorboards in my room were covered in scratches from the bed moving backwards and forwards and the bed was small, had a duvet about the size of the average large bath towel and one pillow (on a double bed (another was in the wardrobe, but that meant two small pillows))

The shower was about half the size of a public phone box and the hot water took about 2 minutes to come through.

I stayed for one night on business, if I'd had to stay longer I'd have changed hotel.

I visited with my 20 year old son and liked the central location of the hotel in a pleasant area. The room we were given was rather strange with the beds up on a small platform and a jacuzzi bath whose jets no longer worked. The room was quiet but overlooked a flat roof and there were workmen out there during the day so it was not very private and didn't feel too secure. We asked to be moved and the staff were very helpful and did find us another quiet room with this time no flat roof and more privacy. I think trying to get a good room in this hotel must be rather pot luck since the rooms seem to be all shapes and sizes and sometime rather weird. Still it's perhaps better than a soulless standard hotel? The breakfast was just about adequate though my son didn't find much to eat. The sausages and noodles seemed very popular!

Well located hotel which is easy to find & within walking distance of all the main attractions. Staff were extremely pleasant & helpful & breakfast was buffet style & adequate. There are several supermarkets nearby & also a Systembolaget (only place to buy alcohol) just a few minutes away on Master Samuelsgatan. This was a godsend as the alcohol prices in the bars are outrageous, we were lucky enough to have small fridge in the room so the beer was cold on our return from a days sightseeing! The room was on the small side & there wasn't a lot of room to put clothes etc. but it was clean & warm & we weren't in Stockholm to sit in our hotel room. The bathroom was a good size with bath & shower incorporated. Good value hotel in an expensive city.
