Spent a week at this hotel and almost thoroughly enjoyed it. It's located in the heart of Sodermalm, the 'cool' part of Stockholm, across from a huge square with restaurants, pubs, coffeehouses, nightclubs, a cinema and a great selection of fast food joints (those my family and I tried were quite good -- and very economical for this expensive city). The adjoining streets are packed with more restaurants, pubs and coffeehouses -- along with a great selection of shops, ranging from H&M to upscale antiques with lots of boutiques and design stores thrown in.

The hotel literally sits atop a Tunnelbannen (subway, underground, Metro, or what have you) station, so the upscale and antique parts of Stockholm -- and all of its museums and downtown shopping -- are within really easy reach. We were constantly on the go.

We got a great deal on two twin rooms through Expedia. The accomodations were Swedishly small, but comfortable, aestehtically designed and well cared for. The bathroom was also small, but clean -- and everything worked. The buffet breakfast was copious, varied and tasty, though the coffee could stand more beans and more brewing.

The only thing I can find to criticize about the hotel is its 3 ridiculously small elevators. Sometimes it can take a while to find one with room -- and when they're full, the situation becomes quite intimate. But, everyone related to the situation with good humor.

We were very happy with this place. It was a terrific base from which to explore Stockholm and its surroundings.

I stayed here for two nights as part as my final holiday in Sweden. Having visited Stockholm many of times my normal hotel was fully booked so I opted for this having wondered about it before.

The hotel is located almost next to the Medborgarplatsen underground stop on the green line which is just a couple of stops from the central station. The hotel is located in the district of Södermalm which is a lively area of Stockholm knows for it’s nightlife.

I occupied a Cabin Room with a Queen Size Bed; the room was known to have no windows and was located two floors down in the basement. However I found the room to be perfect, having no windows meant I could finally get a good nights sleep after being disturbed in the previous hotels I had stayed in! The room was adequately equipped, good size bed, wardrobe, drawer space, cupboard space, TV, iron and ironing board, desk area and the bathroom was of a good size, spacious with an excellent shower and good supply of towels! There was also two spare pillows and a warmer duvet stored in the wardrobe. The room had air conditioning which was a bonus having no windows, there was no mini bar. Another good bonus is that there is FREE wireless internet in the rooms, you just ask for a log in and password on reception which is valid for 7 days!

The hotel its self is very busy and my only downsize was the waiting time for the three lifts, I was sporting a leg injury so no way fit enough to go up two flights of stairs and I waited for the life for around 10 minutes one morning to get to breakfast, it seemed to completely bypass the basement floors and kept going up and down the other 8 floors!

The breakfast room is massive and they cater for everyone including special diets, gluten free and also organic food. However be aware it can be hard to get a seat although tables are turned around pretty quick!

Overall a good hotel, fantastic room and friendly staff on reception, I most certainly will stay here again when I visit Stockholm!

I have been there for 2 years ago with some family members, and the hotel is ok, nothing really special, just okay for being a 3 star hotel..The hotel room was average but really comfortable and had good space for out things. The view from the window was great, you could see a park and alot of nature. Some negative things about the hotel was the noise from the street nearby at night, but it did not bother so much so we couldnt sleep. The location of the hotel was pretty good, not too far from the city centre, and a lot of bars and restaurants near the hotel. What can I say, I could stay there again, its as I said a okay hotel for being 3 stars.

“Very pleasant hotel with perfect location”

Scandic Malmen

Wonderful location! Right above the subway station. Walking distance to restaurants, food stands, great shopping, grocery stores.

I loved the Swedish design throughout the hotel. The room was very nice. I was scared when the bed only had one blanket, but it was super warm. The bathroom had a shower only, which soaked the bathroom floor. Be sure to bring your own shampoo, because the hotel's shower wash/shampoo combo did not do the trick.

It was great that recycling was available, even in the guestrooms. I got the feeling that Scandic cares about the environment. Breakfast was very good, and I appreciated the fresh breads. Breakfast on the weekend was a madhouse due to the quantity of guests, but the food was kept fresh and the tables clean.

The staff was friendly, although a few of the newer staff members needed to know a little more about the immediate area.

The location is good to excellent. Underground station in same building, lively square on the other side of the street. Though, my room was terribel! I have never lived in such a small room. The bathroom was even smaller. To shower without hitting against something was impossible.

All hotels were booked out in this period. Otherwise I would have left the hotel on the next day, unless they were able to provide a decent room for me!

The front desk was not friendly. They just managed to do their job. I never felt welcom in this hotel. The breakfast buffet had a lot to offer, but the size of the restaurant and the location of food and drinks stalls in the breakfast room (restaurant) always led to a chaos.

I will definitely make another choice on my next trip to Stockholm!
