We stumbled into this museum and found it to be wonderful. The free audio guide is exceptional. Take your time here to appreciate all of the exhibits.

“basement treasure”

do not miss the Gold room and get the audio guide to hear funny stories about the vikings and their jewellery. their special viking exhibit was better executed than the one in Copenhagens national museum.

“Interesting museum with fabulous Gold Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Not being experts on Swedish History, we found this museum absorbing and took us longer to look around than we expected. We actually started with the gold room which has outstanding exhibits that cannot be seen elsewhere in the world. The three gold choker style necklaces display wonderful craftsmanship and are amazingly preserved. This museum may not suit purists looking for a blow by blow account of historical activity, but it has artefacts that give a good account of Sweden and Swedish life through the ages. The textiles section was also interesting, especially the wonderful tomb cover. I find it fascinating that textiles that are centuries old can be so perfect. We felt it was well worth the visit and most of the information is in English too. The only downside is the building work which means you have to retrace your steps to move on to the next section.

“Losts of info missing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

I arrived here hoping to learn about Swedish history, but left feeling like I'd learnt nothing really. One of the sections details the history by year, but there is barely A mention of the loss of Finland to the Russians or the union with Denmark. The section on the Vikings is boring. I would give this place a miss.
