“Very modern museum to present a very old subject”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

This museum deals with what could be a slightly dull subject in a very modern and friendly way. A small entrance hall opens up in to an expansive main room, with the remains of Stockholm's original city wall as its impressive centerpiece. Other features include full size replicas of different buildings throughout the city's medieval history and, on select days, live costumed performers bringing historic customs to life. Depending on your typical browsing speed you could spend everything from one to three or four hours looking at the main displays and artefacts.

“Very interesting especially for people that like time travelling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

It is a very well set museum, with history about Stockholm and Sweden, many years ago, that life was not easy, and surviving need a lot of effort. After the visit on this museum, even if you knew nothing about how people lived in the middle ages, you will have then an idea. And especially in Scandinavia, that the environment was not hostile, and the source of food and heat was a daily struggle. The miniatures in the museum, the old findings of the wall (ruins), the skeletons, everything is interesting and easy to pay attention to some things, that might never watch them on TV, movies, or read on books.

“Good museum to pair with visit to Gamla Stan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We found this museum much more interesting and well done than the various museums associated with the Royal Palace (nearby). This museum is located under the bridge that leads from Norrmalm (the central part of Stockholm) to Gamla Stan, just opposite the Parliament buildings. There is a lovely little quiet park at the entrance to the museum, with a very nice little outdoor cafe if you happen to be there around lunch time (great sandwiches). I'd recommend the audioguide for the museum if you don't catch the English tour -- the exhibits are clearly marked and explained in English, but the audiotour adds a lot more interesting information. It doesn't take more than an hour or so to do this museum, but is well worth the time, especially if you have elementary school aged kids.

“Just right for kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

This was a great place to take the kids. My 11-year old enjoyed the 25-minute English speaking tour. My 8-year old roamed around on her own, which was fine because the museum is small and is located within one space so I could find my kid easily at any time. There are spaces to climb and explore. We visited the museum first and then went to Gamla Stan so that our visit to Old City would be a bit more informed, which worked.

“A trip far down history in its own settings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This museum offers an experience outside the regular. Plus, when you buy the entrance (100:-) it allows you free entrance for a year to both this museum and Stockholm's Stadsmuseum (the museum of Stockholm city).

We also bought the audio guide. This is not necessary but saves you from reading all the signs.

I would prefer not telling much about what you will find in this hotel in terms of execution of the different areas but just to summarize it gives you the full idea on how it was to live during the medieval times in Stockholm. It covers everything from the church to crimes to professions to illnesses. Just go, you'll like it for sure.
