Owner description: The Old Town, unsurprisingly, is the oldest part of Stockholm. It's certainly the tourist's go-to destination, but that doesn’t detract from its architectural and otherwise urban beauty.

“Nice to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

A lot of the typical tourist stores, but still good to see. The Royal Palace is incredible and you really must get a photo in the narrowest street in Stockholm.. Mind = blown.

“Old Town at Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Beautiful and peaceful! Swedes do celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, so many things are closed then...big sales in stores on the day after Christmas! Look for the many cafes that are underground and in beautiful cellars! They are marked with candles outside the doors!

“Cultural experience in a diverse city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

An "old town" area is common in most large European cities, and this one had some qualities in common with other old town areas. The narrow, cobblestone roads wind along hilly terrain and it is fairly easy to get lost with or without a map due to the streets designed in no particular arrangement. Definitely not for those with problems walking or disabled persons. But we enjoyed the area, even getting lost a time or two. From sipping coffee in a shop with a view to seeing a royal procession with horses!
If you're in Stockholm, this is the cultural and historical center and where every tourist must visit!

“Astonishing....”

The most beautiful medieval architecture in the world. So nicely conserved.
Find out some real irish pubs, they're really good!

“Gamla Stan in December”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

The Old Town is just that, old, steeped in History and something to see in every street, the royal Palace, The Cathedral, The Churches, the Old Town Square with Christmas Market, the many jewellery Shops, Restaurants, Bars, Tack Shops and high Quality Glass shops, something for everyone. I go every year for a week to work and I ALWAYS stay in Gamla Stan it is safer and more convenient than anywhere else as it is very east to use the public transport, a tube to the city centre 4 minutes, a train to the airport 20 minutes so easy and the busses are great. Travel by Public transport costs for a 3 day 72hr ticket covering busses and trains and tube is £24! Hotel wise the one I have found that is fantastic is the Collectors Hotels The Nelson, The Lady Hamilton and The Victory, they are museums within a hotel all privately owned by a Collector. FANTASTIC 10/10 for the Victory, 8/10 for the other two. Great place, especially if it isn't snowing :)(
