Owner description: The Old Town, unsurprisingly, is the oldest part of Stockholm. It's certainly the tourist's go-to destination, but that doesn’t detract from its architectural and otherwise urban beauty.

“Best of Stockholm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

If you are going to stay somewhere in Stockholm, choose Gamla Stan. The town was beautiful!! Lots of shops and cafes. Old town is quite a literal name. The alleys are cobble-stoned and the architecture is beautiful.

“Go back to the heart of Stockholm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Stockholm is a city located on a number of islands in the inner archipelago, and spanned by 57 bridges. Gamla Stan is where Stockholm began. It is characterized by cobble-stoned alley ways with a lot of quaint shops - and some obvious tourist traps, restaurants and museums. This is where the Royal Castle is located, which in my childhood was the home of the Royal Family. Now, of course, they live at Drottningholm Castle. This is also where the Nobel Museum is. and Storkyrkan, for a long time the church where members of the Royal Family were christened, married, and buried. Most recently, the Crown Princess Victoria was married here. There's also an outdoor market in Gamla Stan. Finally, the restaurant Gyllene Freden has offered good food here since the 18th Century.

“You can feel the history”

Narrow lanes, small shop and real atmosphere of old times. The houses are well kept and the whole area is beautiful and tidy.

“Turn back time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

The old town of Stockholm is a combination of royal dignity with its castle and churches and narrow alleys with its lovely shops, cafés bars and restaurants. I return here almost always when visiting Stockholm. Before Christmas the market place is full of small huts with handicraft. Hot Swedish Christmas drink "Glögg" keeps you warm.

The old town is popular and often crowded. Be prepared to book your hotel rooms and restaurants well in advance.
