“Impressive building in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2009

Our 5 day trip to Stockholm and our stay at the Diplomat was a birthday present to ourselves as we both celebrate our birthdays in February. Our 11 year old daughter was also with us.

We chose this hotel for its location and we managed to get a good price through expedia with a promotion. Being on Strandvagen meant that all the main tourist sights were all within walking distance. I fell in love with Gamla Stan, it is absolutely stunning, all the buildings and cobbled streets transport you to the medieval era. It snowed during the night a couple of days and my daughter was thrilled walking through the snow.

We had breakfast at the brasserie 2 or 3 times, very good but way too pricey. Also tried dinner one night and the food was very tasty.

My husband and daughter tried the free sauna one night and came back very relaxed.

We had a good stay at this hotel and although the room was big and comfortable as there were 3 of us, the bathroom was tiny and not practical (you had to close the door to be able to get into the bath).

We loved the old elevator (see pic) and the stained glass windows on the staircase.

My brother and I stayed at this hotel in April of 2009, we booked in late January and got a fantastic deal ( I think it was less that $130 per night). This hotel has a great rating and deservingly so. It is quite posh and trendy, in particular the brasserie on site. In fact, it is a must place to do lunch as you will have ample opportunity to people watch ( its a popular restaurant with the local crowd, which is up market). The breakfast is a bit expensive but a good value for the amount of food laid out before you.

The staff were very lovely and attentive. They addressed all of our queries promptly and never hesitated to help us ( they even made a Smorgasbord dinner reservation for us at the Grand Hotel...an amazing, but very expensive, experience to be hand in Stockholm). The hotel has a gym but it is limited with only a couple of machines and a jacuzzi, however, once you book your time slot ( you have to reserve the gym ahead of time) you will be the only one allowed in there. The hotel also has free wifi which is very handy when you get bored with BBC World News in the evening.

The location is spectacular as you are within a short walking distance of all major attractions, including the Old Town. Getting here from the train station, however, is less than ideal and it would be quicker if you took a taxi. We flew in and took a taxi to the hotel, an expensive venture but one with less hassle than having to board a train/coach to the central train station.

If you can, try and request a fourth floor or higher room facing Strandvagen, you will have a spectacular view of the city as such. In any case though you will not be disappointed and definitely try the on-site restaurant!

Stayed here just for the one night. We got there after dark, so couldn't see the area very well, but the hotel is located by the Quayside, where you can go on boat trips during the summer. The hotel itself was very nice and the staff were very welcoming. The rooms appear to be quite old fashioned, but everything worked well and we were very comfortable there.

Breakfast was good, with a wide variety of food to choose from and a good view across the quay.

We didn't eat at the hotel for our evening meal and instead we walked over to the Old Town, Gamla Stan, which was a pleasant walking distance away. Lots of restaurants to choose from there, though it can get quite busy.

If you are staying here in between flights, as we did, you can get the train from the airport into the town. It is fast and frequent, though probably a bit on the expensive side, as the taxi driver reckoned he could have done the jounrye for the same cost. Buy your tickets in the airport and ask for a return which saves you a bit of money. We had to get a taxi from the train to the hotel - it is a bit too far to walk.

I loved this hotel even though the view from the room was rooftops and skyline
It was expensive but the cost of living is in these p[laces good room facilities. Lovely Spa and restaurant and and the staff was commendable in their bending backwards to make you comfy.

We stayed here two nights in April and had an enjoyable stay. The best part of the stay was the bed, which was a Dux. First time that both of us had slept on a Dux bed and we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort...although after checking the retail price of the beds at department store NK, we will probably wait a while to purchase one.

Location: The hotel is located about an 8 minute walk from the closest subway station, but there is a bus stop that is 2 mins away that takes you to the city center. The hotel is located right by the water and is in one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.

Breakfast: Large selection of food, although the dining room can be packed at times.

Rooms: Bed was nice as previously mentioned, but the decor is certainly well worn and the bathroom decor was very old, but clean. We had a balcony with water views, which was a nice touch.

I went to Stockholm for work with two Colleagues and chose the Diplomat because of the location and excellent price. We all absolutely loved the Diplomat! It was in a perfect location and we walked everywhere. The rooms were quiet, clean and spacious. I would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat!

My wife and I stayed here several times. It is a nice hotel but the rooms are just too small for the price. We also did not appreciate hearing our neighbor snoring all night! Thin walls...
For these reasons and after they took breakfast off the price of the room a month ago we stopped using this hotel .
