I can't think of a better way to spend a summer's morning than sitting at a sunny outside table at Gilda's Rum watching the world go by on Skanegatan.
The lattes here are scrumptious with a heart etched in the steamed milk on top. Thery are served in eclectic cups that must have come from many auctions and yard sales. The food is simple but very good: scandinavian breakfast sandwiches like eggs, Kalles caviar and cucumbers or brie and salami. Excellent, generous salads and sandwiches later in the day.
The decor inside looks like somebody's comfortable parlor from the turn of the last century, replete with sofas and lounge chairs. The engaging owner told me that she enjoys wandering around cemetaries outside of Stockholm; she came upon the name "Gilda" on a certain gravestone and decided she would honor this old-fashioned name by calling her coffe house "Gilda's Room."
I love this place and love the area around Nytorget...my favorite hangout in Stockholm.
